I'm serious. Seems like hockey is a bare knuckle, chop till you drop occasion and as I lay into this dubie I thought to myself...

What if a player used something like a spinning backfist during a hockey fight, and for the sake of this thread, LANDS it and KOs his opponent clean?

Dirty? Legit?

What kind of controversy would arise from such a thing?

it would be very difficult to generate a lot of force doing that with skates on

I don't think that backfist on skates will be any more powerful than a punch with a bare fist. It's not MMA, no gloves to reduce power of a strike.
Anyway, the HFBoards would explode!

Can't happen on skates. Even if it were possible, the jersey grab would prevent it.

I'm pretty sure I can spin around on my skates with my arm out and my fist clenched. The move would have to be before the jersey grab obviously.

Absolutely no imagination. I'll just wait till it happens, if it ever does and then I'll get my answer.

It's obviously a match penalty for intent to injure. You might as well be talking about the penalty for jabbing a guy in the face with a ninja star.

Pretty sure you'd probably get knocked out. Fighting on skates is hard enough, if you've never done it you really have no idea.
Generating force is hard, balancing while chucking, and tussling for leverage and position is hard. It already takes a tonne of effort to fight.
trying a spin would just open you up for the other guy. It's not the same as if you are standing on the ground, or a mat.

A punch is a punch. The main reason they don't use spinning backfists is that the result is most likely to be the player losing his balance and getting socked right in the face by his opponent while he's off-balance.

How about a flying knee drop from the top of the plexiglass, only to have the other player roll out of the way at the last second so the guy lands on the ice, gets knocked unconscious, and is counted out?

I don't know how you can call one style of punch an attempt to injure and another style of punch not.

No difference in intention between a wild haymaker and a spinning backfist, imo.

Let's put it this way: if it fails, you will most likely end up on your ass, and you will look like the biggest moron on the planet.

Not sure any player is going to take that risk.

You'd probably fall on your ass. Think of the momentum you'd have especially when you miss. It's something that's already hard to pull off on your feet meanwhile, on ice?

The answer can be found in Newton's third law of motion.

I'd be more worried about a round house kick with a skate on honestly.

Closest thing you'll see to an 'MMA move' in a hockey fight is this, IMO

don't think a spinning backfist would work out very well on skates but IMO, there needs to be more triple lutz attacks

I'd like to see a karate chop to someone's neck.

Preferably, Sean Avery's neck.

Also, why are headbutts not allowed? I mean if both fighters take off their helmets I see no reason why they should not be allowed to headbutt each other.
