Wow, that is an amazing trade for the Habs. Was expecting something like the Grossman deal, but Geoffrion absolutely trumps a 3rd round pick.

Like I said before, this year is a seller's market with massively inflated prices. Expect something similar for Moen.

I don't think anyone thinks we could have gotten better elsewhere. Maybe someone else would have given a 2nd and they would have ended up lower in the standings but this is pretty much spot on with what everyone expected to get for Gill.

And I think we all knew he was going to get traded so it's not a big shock to lose this guy, even if we all loved him.

I hope we continue with the sell-off though. If we get good offers for our players, this is the time to get rid of all of 'em.

@Pernell Karl

Campoli was bad early after he came back from his torn hamstring, didn't seem 100% the first few weeks almost like they rushed him back.

The last month he has been solid(ok except for his play on Pouliot), makes a good first pass. Would make a good "depth d-man". Paying a 3rd or 4th for him wouldn't derail a team. Ponikarovsky cost a 4th for New Jersey so a 3rd for him is not a stretch.

Love the trade, but didn't realize that Geoffrion is already 22. You guys think he'll play this season? More likely a replacement for Darche next season IMO.

Anyone know the condition on the 5th?

Yes
Pierre LeBrun @Real_ESPNLeBrun
If Geoffrion gets 40 gp in Montreal next year, Nashville gets that fifth-round pick. If he doesn't play in that many games, no pick for Nash

If we are going to have a soft, mistake prone defense there is absolutely no excuse for playing Campoli (and even Kaberle) over Weber. Weber has been a disaster at times but unlike the others he has an excuse, he can still get better while Campoli will not.

I have nothing against the Campoli signing. He's a depth defender whose softness and horrible positioning could be hidden on a more well rounded defensive team. He can skate and has a good first pass. The problem was having to play him as more than that.

So according to the main board, Hal Gill is a stud top 4 defenseman and Blake Geoffrion is just a bum who might as well give up playing hockey at the age of 24. Allllllrighty than.

@ clumsy hab- he's 24.

probably won't play for the habs this season until late unless he really lights it up in the ahl/we move moen for both reasons of both his play and waiver. wouldn't be surprised to see him get a cup or two of coffee at some point this season though.

I LOVE that the 2nd is 2012. Nashville has potential to go out in the first round, so that pick could be juicy.

Flyers were among the teams that had interest in Gill. No shortage of interest for Gill, terrific shot-blocker, great on PK, and Cup-winne

So, Geoffrion is gonna play in Hamilton and not MTL?

That kind of sucks, if so...

I hope Gauthier trades Campoli for a pick, Moen for a pick and prospect and Kostitsyn for 2 picks and a B- prospect.

Call up Palushaj & Schultz/Dumont to play the rest of the year.

Cole-Desharnais-Pacioretty
Bourque-Plekanec-Darche
Palushaj-Eller-Leblanc
White-Gomez-Schultz/Dumont

Gorges-Subban
Weber-Diaz
Kaberle-Emelin

2012: 1st, 3x2nd

Our 1st is top 10 for sure, maybe package 1st, and two 2nd for the #1 overall?

Losing in the 1st round does not improve your draft order, but winning 2 rounds in the playoffs does makes your draft order worse.

So simply hope the Preds don't win more than 1 round.

This is what I love about the HFBoards. We make a trade and it is declared a booming success.

I remember the raves that the Kaberle trade got.

Its a "good" trade and only time will tell if its a great trade an average trade or a poor trade. Gill's time in Montreal was over and I wish him success in Nashville.

@rockjngo

We have a pair of 2nds in 2012 as of now. Not 3.

Also, we need to root for the Preds to NOT win their division and for teams that finish behind them in the regular season standings to make the final 4.

I would play the heck out of Campoli and Kaberle the next 10 days, put them in spots where they can produce and then trade them. Especially if markov looks like he will be back soon(Kaberle becomes expendable). Defensemen always have crazy value at the deadline.

Then after the deadline play the heck out of Diaz, Emelin and Weber.
