Shootout Woes

So the Ducks are not doing so well in shootouts. What do you think needs to change?

I remember (was it Carlyle) giving Palmieri a shot once. While he missed I don't think its a bad idea. I think Boudreau should use the 3rd shooter slot in the shootout to reward a player who is playing well in the game. I think not rewarding a 3rd or 4th liner when they are having a great night is a big mistake by the coach.

Don't they choose the shooters based on who performs in practice?

Getzlaf had a good game so thats why he was in it. This is the first time under BB that i can remember where Getzlaf was one of the first 3 shooters.

Yeah I know we blow in shootouts but I didnt have a problem with who was chosen.

Selanne is a given.

Perry is next best thing we have and he was solid all night. Fine choice.

Getzlaf was best player on ice so he deserved it. Plus I get the feeling that BB thought Getz had some extra motivation having that goal disallowed.

I think the Ducks should dedicate more practice to it. Should really take notes on how last two teams we have done. They don't just pick a spot and shoot like we do. I don't think Koivu is answer either though. Maybe Hagman. IMO only clear cut player is Selanne.

Koivu should be a given, he was shooting at 40% for a while. Since coming here he's had all of 3 or 4 attempts.

We're too busy figuring out how to make our PP suck more after every game then to work on the shootout

With the exception of Selanne it seems as if all our shooter go in with the same lethargic pace and always end up shooting on the forehand with none to very little dekes in between.

I wish we could see a little more pace and players not afraid to execute on the backhand. Also it pains me to see that primarily all our skill players are right handed. Hopefully Etem changes this in the near future. A speedy lefty who can create the perfect change of pace in the same old boring shootout.
