And Schenn has busted. Sorry, I did not know that. He only leads the pity hockey league NHL in hits, blocks shots and clears the crease. Just saying...

You guys realize that the article is saying that Gardiner *may* need to be included in a package for Nash? Nothing that you should not have already figured out on your own.

Yet you guys respond here as if it suddenly got increasingly likely that a Nash deal will include Gardiner going the other way.

It's like Cox is fooling you guys with little to no effort in order to drum up attention to his column. It must be so easy to be a politician in this country.

NO WAY!!!! Don't trade Gardiner period. I don't care what we get, we HAVE to keep him.

Trade Kardri, Schenn, Kuli & cash.

Burkie knows how special Jake is for us.

No way we give up Gardiner.

But seriously, some people on here don't seem to realize who Rick Nash even is. This is a perennial 70 point player (okay, maybe 66 points in 75 games last year--same thing), who plays with nobodys on Columbus, and lines up with Crosby and Iginla on the first line of our friggin Olympic team. Do I want to give up Gardiner: no way. Do I want to let Grabo walk because Nash's contract is too big: hell no. But saying that Nash is merely "good" or doesn't make us significantly better is just crazy.

[QUOTE=dannyboy8920;44363045]At first i thought that too. Figured, why would we need more wingers, when we are weak down the middle.

I think Nash gets us in the playoffs, we might even make it without him; but, we play well in the playoffs and look forward to a good offseason.

We now have:

Nash-____-Kessel
Lupul-Grabovski-Kulemin

It would probably be more like

Nash- _______ - Kulemin
Lupul- Bozak- Kessel

Hate to say it, but Graboski is gone unless he takes far less than what he is worth. Burke won't sign him unless it is in the 4- 4.25 range. He simply cant afford it unless he can get rid of alot of the bad contracts he has. Lombardi, Komisarek, Connolly, MacArther, Armstrong.

But what some people forget the fact that after next year,
Lupul, Connolly, Lombardi, Macarther and Armstrong are all off the books.

Lupul will be re signed around the 5.0 to 5.5 that Phil Kessel is making. It will be a kinda hometown discount. IMO i think he could get a little more if he continues to play the way he has been playing.
Armstrong will resign for a hometown discount. Less than what he is making now. Probably around 1.5 to 2.

The other 3 will be let go.

That will open up alot of cap room. All Burke has to do is get rid of Komisarek, and we are golden. Eeryone else will be living up to their contracts. And we would ample space, for that free agent year which should be pretty good, barring guys getting resigned by their current clubs.
Guys like

S.Crosby
R.Getzlaf
C.Perry
J.Iginla
K.Timonen
J.Staal
T.Enstrom
T.Zajac
A.Edler
S.Weiss
R.Regher
L.Visnovsky
S.Hartnell
M.Fisher
M.Ribero
R.Clowe
B.Morrow
R.Whitney
N.Horton
D.Roy
D.Clarkson

Alot of good guys if Leaf Nation can wait till next year.

Burke said he was going to tweek a couple things haha. He better get his arse in gear, and tweek then because these standings are close. Gardiner to me is to poised, and awsome skater to move (period). I find myself watching his skating numerous times, and kind of forget everything else often. The way he skates, and his poise is worth alot right now,but in three years he will be most likely one of the top five young puck moving d-men in the league. With that being my thinking i wonder how a thirty year old Nash will look then, with a NTC,and 3 years @ $7,800,000 remaining.

Going for Nash is ok,but not if Gardiner is involved for me.

This is a tough one, but this is why Burke and CO get the big bucks. Time to earn your pay and make the right moves here.

Alot of good guys if Leaf Nation can wait till next year.
Save up and wait for Crosby in 2013 (He's now un-insurable and Pens can't take on the risk of a long term deal), or Getzlaf as a plan B.

If we're willing to hand out $7.8m/6yrs contracts in the offseason, we can get a player like Nash without giving up a kid like Jake.
One Up ??

Jake Gardiner is likely only 1 of 3 to 4 pieces that Columbus is requesting for Rick Nash. IMO

Kadri/Colborne + 1st round pick + roster player are other potential assets required to have Leafs win the Nash sweepstakes and beat out other offers.

Gardiner/schenn
Komisarek
Mcarthur
Gusty/scrivens
1st

I would do that in a heartbeat
This is why you're not the leafs GM l. Crapping all your depth for one player, when ure not even a playoff team is stupid.

I'd be happy giving up Schenn + Kuly + Colborne/1st.

I'd be happy giving up 2 1sts + 2nd.

I would not be happy giving up Jake Gardiner, who may already be our best defenseman, and costs us $1m per year.

I don't want Gardiner traded either so I hear you.

Jake is one of the few kids Leafs have on the current roster, and he has the potential to be something special in due course.

Well we are just about the youngest team in the league....

I hope we keep Gardiner, he is showing flashes of turning into a great player - hopefully this article is softening us up for who does leave for Nash, so we can say 'whew'

But it is Rick Nash.

I give it a year before most of this board has turned on Gardiner. Probably sooner.

If he has a sophomore slump people will say why didn't they trade him for Nash.

Personally if I have to part with a part of this team, then it is for a goalie.. Think the kings would take Kulemin, Macarthur and a pick for Bernier? I would even take Penner off their hands for that. Would allow us to bring Frattin and Kadri back up!

No way to trading Gardiner. He is going to be an anchor on the Leafs blueline for years to come. I think trading him now would be a big mistake.

The kids offensive capability are overrated due to his skating ability. Anyways you have to give up talent to get it back and Nash is a premier player in this league. I know you guys want to move schenn and Crabb for Nash but its not happening.
