NO WAY!!!! Don't trade Gardiner period. I don't care what we get, we HAVE to keep him.
Trade Kardri, Schenn, Kuli & cash.
Burkie knows how special Jake is for us.

But seriously, some people on here don't seem to realize who Rick Nash even is. This is a perennial 70 point player (okay, maybe 66 points in 75 games last year--same thing), who plays with nobodys on Columbus, and lines up with Crosby and Iginla on the first line of our friggin Olympic team. Do I want to give up Gardiner: no way. Do I want to let Grabo walk because Nash's contract is too big: hell no. But saying that Nash is merely "good" or doesn't make us significantly better is just crazy.
Donato and True Blue Quixote: can you stop fighting?
[QUOTE=dannyboy8920;44363045]At first i thought that too. Figured, why would we need more wingers, when we are weak down the middle.
I think Nash gets us in the playoffs, we might even make it without him; but, we play well in the playoffs and look forward to a good offseason.
We now have:
It would probably be more like
Nash- _______ - Kulemin
Lupul- Bozak- Kessel
Hate to say it, but Graboski is gone unless he takes far less than what he is worth. Burke won't sign him unless it is in the 4- 4.25 range. He simply cant afford it unless he can get rid of alot of the bad contracts he has. Lombardi, Komisarek, Connolly, MacArther, Armstrong.
But what some people forget the fact that after next year,
Lupul, Connolly, Lombardi, Macarther and Armstrong are all off the books.
Lupul will be re signed around the 5.0 to 5.5 that Phil Kessel is making. It will be a kinda hometown discount. IMO i think he could get a little more if he continues to play the way he has been playing.
Armstrong will resign for a hometown discount. Less than what he is making now. Probably around 1.5 to 2.
The other 3 will be let go.
That will open up alot of cap room. All Burke has to do is get rid of Komisarek, and we are golden. Eeryone else will be living up to their contracts. And we would ample space, for that free agent year which should be pretty good, barring guys getting resigned by their current clubs.
Burke said he was going to tweek a couple things haha. He better get his arse in gear, and tweek then because these standings are close. Gardiner to me is to poised, and awsome skater to move (period). I find myself watching his skating numerous times, and kind of forget everything else often. The way he skates, and his poise is worth alot right now,but in three years he will be most likely one of the top five young puck moving d-men in the league. With that being my thinking i wonder how a thirty year old Nash will look then, with a NTC,and 3 years @ $7,800,000 remaining.
Going for Nash is ok,but not if Gardiner is involved for me.
If you wouldn't trade gardiner for nash you would be crazy, in Toronto nash would be a perenial 90+ player in our offensive system, people overrate him? He was on the olympic team, always on team canada and sometimes the captain, he would be our only toronto boy on the team (for some reason this bothers me) idk how u wouldn't do it.
I would do that in a heartbeat
This is why you're not the leafs GM l. Crapping all your depth for one player, when ure not even a playoff team is stupid.
Personally if I have to part with a part of this team, then it is for a goalie.. Think the kings would take Kulemin, Macarthur and a pick for Bernier? I would even take Penner off their hands for that. Would allow us to bring Frattin and Kadri back up!
The kids offensive capability are overrated due to his skating ability. Anyways you have to give up talent to get it back and Nash is a premier player in this league. I know you guys want to move schenn and Crabb for Nash but its not happening.
