I'd be happy giving up Schenn + Kuly + Colborne/1st.
I'd be happy giving up 2 1sts + 2nd.
I would not be happy giving up Jake Gardiner, who may already be our best defenseman, and costs us $1m per year.
Exactly the deal I'd like to do. Give up some quality young guys without including Kadri or Gardiner, along with the obligatory kuley or MacArthur and a 1st and 2nd.
Nash is nice but with his contract I don't want to completely mortgage the farm and our future.
Schenn I would deal in a package for Nash, but Gardiner I would not.
That almost sounds deflationary on Schenns behalf, but i knowwhat you mean. Schenn imo is valuable very much so too though. Schenn's skating will most likely need work ,but he is still good being a little slow yet.When/if he gains a little more quickness he could be a very different player.
Schenns skating needs to be improved, and if that was not the case he would be every bit as valuable as Jake.
if i had to put a value on it i would say gardiner for nash straight up is pretty close concidering nash's neg value cap hit and gardiner's low salary/cap hit combined with his age and potential. he's a 21 year old defenseman who's playing pretty big mins ahead of guys who have been rated higher than him. to make a trade though the leafs would need to send salary back and that would diminish some of the leafs value so to make a deal i think it would have to be much bigger . something based around nash +carter and gardiner + good prospect [kadri ?] +draft pick + salary dump or 2. to me if it's just nash coming then it wont be gardiner going.
Seems like everyone wants to overpay for Nash. A roster player, a good prospect and a first should be the max payment. Anything more just seems too much.
Nash is highly overrated because of his cap hit IMO.
I wouldn't say that, Is he a little overpaid? Sure. But this is still a very(very) good hockey player here that checks a lot of the boxes for us.
The one stat lines that have swayed me on getting Nash are the point production discrepancy between Nash and the 2nd and 3rd highest scorers on Columbus.
a 23 point difference between him and Huselius and then 33 points between him and Umberger. Then in 07/08 only a 8 points ahead of Zherdev, But then a whopping 35 points a head of Peca.
These show to me at least he can produce on a mediocre to (pretty)bad team with not much help or secondary scoring. So save for Gardiner(and the obvious Kessel, Lupul etc..) any Player, Prospect or pick would be fair game in a package for Nash in a quantity that would suit Columbus.
If anything, his value is lower than it could be,because of his cap hit.
In a cap world the cap hit is almost everything. If Nash was under contract for a million per year for the next 5 years. I would trade Gardiner, plus, for him.
I'm thinking of getting his name on the back of my jersey.. he's a cool youn g stud. the Neidermyer comparisons aren't that far off in his style of play.
Obviously he'd have to accomplish a helluva lot to be compared to Scott Neidermyer long term. but the way he play is remnicent.
No wonder columbus wants him. I would too as an opposing GM.
The kid is a mix of S.N and Phil housley~ But he's jake gardiner. I don't know if he'll ever produce as much as those guys but i'm happy the leafs have a kid like that.
Schenn/gardiner is a combo for the future imo.
I honestly woudn't want to trade those two.
If we get nash i'd rather it be something like salary dump + kadri or colborne+ aulie or franson +1st
mix and match as you choose. the salary dump could be armstrong or komi or lombo or conolly.
Just saw a tweet from Dreger that said the asking price from the Flyers is JVR, Bobrovski, and Schenn/Couturier.
Nothing mentioned about draft picks but I'm sure a 1st from the Flyers would be in there too.
I hope Burke stays away from this. Also..I would've posted the tweet itself but I'm not sure how to do it through my phone.
that's crazy ! i'm pretty sure the players offered up would all combine to score a lot more than nash would and couturier himself may be just as good some day.
1) He'll cost us a tonne of assets
2) He has a monster cap hit ($7.8 million!!)
3) He's cracked the 70-point mark exactly once
4) He's never topped 80 points
5) He never made a bad Columbus team competitive
6) He's not a centre, which remains our top need
I barely watched the game, but when your +1 and played 26+ min, while losing 6-2, your obviously a beast. It could be a hot streak... but nash has a huge cap hit, is overrated as a "power forward", barely scores 70pts, and is just not worth it. If he was a center and still had those same qualities, I might do it, but he isn't, so it doesn't matter.
One GM who talked trade with Columbus GM Scott Howson said the opening asking price is four players: One impact player who can help the Jackets now, two top prospects and a first rounder.
