Let's just skip all the posturing and say that there is absolutely no way that the Blues trade Backes for Weiss.

EDIT: Furthermore, what would be the point? Neither guy is struggling, and switching those players wouldn't fill a need for either team. This is just a thinly-disguised 'would you rather' thread that has no business being a trade proposal.

dont know where exactly the poster was going with theis point but i will rebuttle

Emerging number one young d-man, solid underrated center in Weiss and a stud prospect (top 5 in league)

you could say the same for us...pietrangelo, backes, and tarasenko

Sorry Captains aren't available when they've been pushing their team into a top 5 spot in the standings all season long.

Backes is one of the best all around players in the league... Meaning there aren't any weaknesses in his game. He's grittier than most, he's physical as hell, he's a hitting machine, he can fight, he's tough as nails. He can score, he is a solid puck mover and is hard to knock off the puck. His defensive game is off the charts. Great instincts and awareness in all situations including penalty killing and on the power play. His motor never quits he's a true power foward... He has size, strength, good speed, leadership is top notch and all the intangibles you'd ever want in a hockey player.

He might not be the best in the league at everything I listed but he is damn good at it all.

That doesn't have anything to do with what I was saying. I was saying it's ridiculous to mention that package isn't good enough to get a player. I never said I wouldn't take those three for a player.

Haha.. thanks for the laugh though..

You can keep Backes, wouldn't give Kulikov for him anyway.

gotcha. i would give that much up for only a handful of players in the league. as much as we all love backes, he isnt one of the handful ha. that is way overpayment.

I'd give Kuli for Backes, or Weiss for Backes... I wouldn't deal Hubie for him though.

Backes is the leader of the Blues and represents everything that the Blues stand for.

Funny how half of this thread is wasted on being defensive against a post that was made in hyperbole. Would have been nice to actually hear what Weiss has to offer.

This guy gets it! It was obviously an exaggeration on my part...sorry to any Panther fans who took it the wrong way. The point is Backes won't be moved for even a ridiculous deal like the one mentioned. He is our captain and leader, and his value to St.Louis is something you really can't put a pricetag on.

Backes is worth more than Weiss, a lot more.

Weiss, Kulikov and Hubby would be way overkill to get Backes and would make the Blues better. Maybe not as much short term but easily long term.

But... it's not going to happen.

It's like trading Steen, Schwartz and Shattenkirk for Toews or whoever. Blues would get the better player but lose their top prospect and top young D(yes the Blues have Tarasenko and Pietro but other teams don't have that). or whatever I'm just rambling lol

I'll be honest I came up with the idea of Weiss for Backes from NHL 12. In Be A GM mode St. Louis offered me Backes and a fourth for Weiss. Not that it makes any difference, but I thought that was interesting.

It's more of that there is absolutely no incentive for St. Louis to do it. As you can tell we're pretty high on our 60 pt captain who plays Selke caliber defense against the other team's top lines. I don't really see much of a reason to do this.

Guy is the definition of what you want in a capt. No team would offer what the Blues would want for him, just means too much to our team.
