Sheldon Souray

With the price of defenseman that's been flying around and from hearing descriptions of kubina this season (who sounds like souray is a carbon copy of this season although i really have no idea) what would teams be willing to offer for his services?

I would think higher than Kubina as he can play on the pp as well as pk.

I agree his value will be higher than Kubina's as he can also play the pp.

He can kick your ass, shoot the puck through you: I'd say easily a second or mid-high prospect.

He's not going to return much if anything as long as he's sidelined with these micro-fractures in his foot.

Dallas seems like Sellers. I imagine they get a 2nd for Souray based on recent trades

Would be a great pick up for the Blues. I can't stand Cola, weakest defense on the team. No way its worth a 1st though, 2nd should be fair value here.

A 2nd round pick plus other minor pieces seems to be the going rate for decent defensemen this deadline. I would expect the same for Souray, unless nobody but Nashville and Philly wanted to beef up their blueline, which is doubtful.

Anyone else you would be interested in to possibly package for a higher pick?

A left handed pp specialist is really the only hole I think we have. This is why I think Souray would be ideal. Our forward depth is really good and we have Steen coming back soon. Of course if you guys ever feel like trading Eriksson I would be all ears but we know that's probably not going to happen.

Disclaimer..Not saying Eriksson is available or his value, just saying I would hope the Blues would be talking to Dallas if he were on the block. Like the way he plays, one of my favorite non blues players.

If that is all it takes. I certainly wouldn't be opposed to Vancouver bringing him over.

i would be ecstatic to send him to you for a 2nd... but you might have to fight the blues and the hawks for him too

first team to pony up the 2nd+3rd would get him in this market it seems

If he can manage to come back from his foot issue before the deadline

This is amazing!Last year you wouldn't even take Souray for a bag of pucks + Enrico Chiesa's underwear. This year you are talking about 2nd round picks. Nobody wants the thrashtalking over the hill overrated defenceman Sheldon Souray!

Hey Souray!Want some new shoulders!?!?

Edit: His not welcome back to Oil town!

umm just cause the oilers orginization is trash and proceed to trash talk players and dump them in the ahl doesn't mean they are no longer useful players in the NHL... his contract had alot to do with why nobody wanted to have anything to do with him last year

I think the 2nd and mid prospect would be going the other way, actually.

I don't want to entirely sidetrack this thread, but it must be said. If the Oiler's organization is "trash" and everything was their fault, then why did the events unfold like this:

1) Souray airs grievances through media rather than closed door meeting with management.

2) With their hand forced, Oilers begin shopping Souray.

3) With no interest, the Oilers put Souray on waivers.

4) A humbled Souray decides Edmonton isn't so bad anymore and shows up to training camp, only to be told to take a hike.

He was the architect of his own fate in that situation. As an Oiler fan I wish he would have kept his grievances in-house because I think Souray is the type of player every team needs. The dude is a lethal scrapper.

As far as value, I'd say the 2nd + 3rd/average prospect. Would definitely like to see WAS nab him. They need more toughness on the backend, especially if they run into BOS in the playoffs.
