That said, he's got a long ways to go still to crack the Boston blueline full-time.
Chara - not going anywhere
Seidenberg - signed for another two seasons after this one
Ference - signed for another season. bruins love his character and leadership ( hence the A ) as well as his keep it simple style.
Boychuk - just resigned for another three seasons. our most physical defenseman in terms of game changing hits. Our best RH shot from the point
McQuaid - signed for another three seasons. our most physical defenseman in terms of pugilism. plays a solid 15 minutes a night. makes few mistakes.
After that 5, Cross is in competition with
Hamilton - Boston's best prospect, most likely with the big club next season
Zanon - Seidenberg-lite. great shotblocker, solid defensively
Krug - has showed excellent all-around awareness despite his size. great first pass
IMO, Cross will be good to have for depth in the case of injury, but I can't see him cracking the lineup full-time unless they decide to part ways with Ference ( unlikely unless a sudden drop in performance ) and McQuaid's noggin keeps on taking a beating.

I think a few years (at least one) in Providence is what he needs anyways while we lose other guys to free agency and cap reasons - the whole culture down there needs to change anyways, and adding a hard worker like Cross oughta help change that. I expect him, Krug, and Warsofsky to shore up Providence's defense next season
