Carter and Mason for 1st, 3rd, Kulemin, Komisarek, Gustavsson

CLB moved a 1st(Couturier), Voracek and I believe a 3rd.........in this case the first/third comes back, Kulemin is Voracek.........Gus is a UFA so not much value , he will start in CLB for the rest of the yr though.........Komisarek is a salary offset for taking Mason

Well, since TSN reported that Holmgren walked away from Nash discussions because Howson wanted:

JVR, Bobrovski and Couturier/Schenn

My guess is that Howson will ask for Schenn, Scrivens, Kadri and possibly MacArthur

My guess

Nash for 1st, Kulemin and Franson

To the fans it looks like a FA, a likely roll the dice prospect and middle of the pack pick.

To the owners it looks like a chance to save face, and money. In terms of media, they have drove Jeff out of town, and may be lucky to even get rid of him.

IF they wanted to go full rebuild.
CHI=
Grabo

Tor=
Carter

CLB=
2nd(tor)
2nd(Chi)
Saad
Blacker
why would the Hawks trade Saad and a 2nd for Grabo?

Burke was in New York for an HBO taping when he ran into Howson and the two managers decided to talk over breakfast.
Not a whole lot to see here, unfortunately. (Columbus plays New York tonight)

Title of thread should be 'How to get Nash to Toronto while giving Columbus nothing they want'

At this point, I just don't see the fit for Nash. We have a game breaker in Kessel who is among league leaders in goals and points. Nash would add size but we need better centers instead of wingers. Every contending team has great depth at center and most of them have legitimate #1. It doesn't make sense to trade a lot of assets for a player we don't have to have. Lupul has been great too.
Yeah they could do that -- but lets think about that.

Any team that trades for Grabovski is going to do so as a rental -- they have no clue if he will resign, but know that if he does, it'll be at $4.5-$5.25m for 3-5 years. If they're prepared to do that, why not give up a little bit more to just get Jeff Carter. That way, the team that knows they have a player who wants to stay, gets to keep that player. Sure, he'd fit nicely on the 2nd line, but he doesn't play big by any stretch of the imagination, would be a horrible fit with Phil Kessel (just like Grabo is), and we'd have to commit 9 years instead of 3-4 for Grabo.

The fit for Nash in Toronto is obvious -- to give Toronto a legitimate #2 threat. The Leafs already have the centre for him (Connolly), and adding Nash could make Grabovski somewhat expendable. You keep the top line together, and run with Mac/Kulemin - Connolly - Nash as the #2 unit. Furthermore, he'd give the Leafs the flexibility to break up that top line so that they actually have the ability to cycle the puck.

Lupul-Bozak-Kessel has been effective on the rush, but totally ineffective on the cycle and in their own end. Nash-Bozak/Connolly-Kessel would be effective for all 200 feet... and also probably give us a good #2 line with Kulemin & Lupul to work with.

Yes, getting a #1C is important, but there isn't one available that fits with Phil Kessel... and this team has to improve.

That does make sense.

The Philly deal might have been a little crazy. The Carter trade may have played a little into that as well. I'm sure Howson isn't over the Carter trade just yet.

In another thread the consensus was 2nd + prospect, could have been Beach or someone else. Was just kicking tires really.

Are you kidding me? The whole point of this thread was Burke met with Howson and thats exactly what they did? They discussed Nash and Sportsnet comfirmed it.

Nash is coming home. Wouldn't be surprised if something went down today especially after the western Canada road trip.

Columbus : Carter /or/ Nash

Toronto : Schenn + 1st y12 + Kadri

I think that would be fair.

If Nash is acquired, he'll be the second coming of Sundin. Minus the 100 point season.

Saad is not being traded ,, Hawks management has made that clear

Also you dont move your best prospect for a rental to a division rival

Darren said that this meeting wasn't even planned lol... They "bumped" into eachother... Either Burke is really mad and just desperate to make a deal, or they are just having breakfast together and laughing how both of their teams blow...

I would love Carter or Nash, but obviously Carter fills the positional need more. If Grabovski is traded or wants to test free agency, I would really like Burke to get Jeff Carter. He'd also cost less than Nash as well.

Ahhh making trades just for the sake of trading after an emotional loss, that always works.

There is a new 'blank' leaf jersey in my room, just waiting.

Personally I am still on board with firing Wilson before sending half our roster to Columbus for an overpaid underproducing guy.

Nash or Carter is being traded to TO.

CLB will be getting Schenn, Kadri(Colborne) depending on who + 1st.

Mark my words!

How serendipitdous of them, all I have to say is, don't take Carter.

Either one would look good in a Leafs jersey.

You really think Burke flew from Vancouver to New York over night and they just happened to bump in to each other? They're dicussing Nash or Carter I can tell you that.

Rick Nash on the other hand...after the way this team has responded... they could use a big time kick in the butt. They also probably do have a decent centre for him in the form of Tim Connolly. Move Grabovski to recover some of the futures required to get Nash.

Well said!!!!
