We have enough overpaid, under-performing defenders as it is.
“The most terrifying fact about the universe is not that it is hostile, but that it is indifferent. If we can come to terms with this indifference and accept the challenges of life within the boundaries of death, our existence as a species can have genuine meaning and fulfillment. However vast the darkness, we must supply our own light.” - Stanley Kubrick
Terrible trading partners. The Pens have spent a lot of time trying to get wingers for their centers, and we have been doing the exact same thing. If we trade someone like Johnson, we wouldn't be looking for defense in return, our depth chart is beyond ridiculous when it comes to defense, we would be looking for someone just like Neal. Which is impossible. We are looking for the deal that the Pens made with Dallas. We've obviously had different successes, but we are very similar teams. We have defense, goaltender, and centers. The problem is capable wingers, and that is all we desire.

I would actually like to have Jack Johnson on the Pens. He would bring that nastiness that the Pens blueline could use. He also brings some offensive ability which, again, is something the blueline could use. I think he'd flourish in Dan Bylsma's system.
Pittsburgh doesn't have an NHL winger they can part with, they probably don't want to trade their 1st rounder with the draft being in Pittsburgh, and their only top 6 winger prospects are still 2-3 years away.
It's just not feasible for Pittsburgh though, unless it were a blockbuster type deal along the lines of Martin, Kennedy, Bennett for Johnson +.
