Unless somebody like Reilly or Tervainen slips to 16th, that pick will have a lot less value than a regular mid 1st rounder.

If I was trading Plekanec, I'd be happier trying to trade him to a place like Phoenix for Gormley and a 1st.

This is probably why I try to avoid this thread. Who in their right mind would trade Gormley and a mid-late 1st for Pleky?

Anyone mention sending a late round pick for Omark? The kid wants to get traded in the worst way and if we have an opening beside Plekanec next year I think taking a flyer on a no risk/high reward player like Omark would be a fun venture. He seems to be very motivated so I bet he is driving 100% every night.

Another small player but who really cares? If we take Galchenyuk we can rebuild the line around him when he is ready and Gionta is gone.

I wouldn't mind taking a flier on Omark, but I don't think that should be our plan for the 2nd line. Much too risky. I can see penciling him into the 3rd line with Eller, with Moen as plan B and LeBlanc/Gallagher as plan C.

On the 2nd line we need to spend a bit of money on a guy like Semin or Jragr/Hudler. Penner could be a plan C or D. Obviously if Parise is a possibility he would be great there.

Hopefully it was chocolate-chip and organic, too.

Pleks would make Phoenix one of the top teams in the West and Gormley won't.

Well, as a neutral fan I think it's pretty close.

Who will get the best player? Probably Montreal.

The difference between Yakupov and the number 3 pick (grigorenko, galchenyuk, murray) is NOT worth the difference between Gagner and Subban. Not even close.

Never mind the fact it would be guaranteeing we suck next year as we'll have no defence.

A **** load of GMs since Plekanec is one of the best all-around center in the league and has a supreme work ethic.

We'd have to add. I have no objection adding weber or more to the package, as miniscule as it is.

That's not enough. Gormley is gonna be a stud defenseman. Those are harder to come by then 2-way #2 centres. And add a 1st to that? I know I wouldn't do that. Not to mention we don't need more D prospects.

We have many possibilities come draft day. I’m honestly not really sure about this draft class, other than Yakupov no body really stands out for me. So I may listen to trade offers for our pick. Here are IMO the possibilities that we have:

1) Keep our draft pick and select BPA at #3
2) Try to trade up with the Oilers, we get Yakupov and they get Murray. We’ll surely have a big competition from other clubs to trade for the #1 pick, so I’m not sure what it’ll cost. It’s probably gonna cost our 1st + 2nd and a roster player (I’d give Diaz or Weber)
3) Trade down with either Toronto or Anaheim if they really want Grigorenko/Galchenyuk. Depends on the return though especially Toronto they’ll have to overpay big time.
4) Package our 1st + a roster player for a star player (Nash, Getzlaf, Ryan, etc.)

Other than the draft we could maybe explore trading with the Oilers. They’d probably try to trade Hemsky, Gagner, Omark, MSP, Horcoff for defense. I’m not sure we have what they’re looking for but we can put on the table Diaz, Weber, Kaberle, St-Denis and work around that.

I would definitely hold onto our picks. The cost is going to be way too high to trade up and get Edmonton's #1 pick and to be honest, I don't think Yakupov is that much better than who we can get at #3..I don't want to trade our 2nd rounder as its a very high second rounder and we can still a very decent player in that spot such as Dalton Thrower, Stefan Matteau or Tomas Hertl

What I would do....

This is what I would do, and Toronto wanted to move up to do something of the same. I would trade the 3rd pick and Pleks for Rick Nash.

Nash is overpaid and overrated. He's not worth losing Plekanec.

whether we get Grigo or Galchenyuk I'm pretty sure they will have better overall careers than Rick Nash. Nash is good but has never had a season with more than 80pts... in fact Plekanec and Nash are pretty close in pts thus far ( Nash played a few seasons more than Plek ).
