Thank goodness. Now D'Antoni can go coach a real team with players who might actually be interested in helping their team win. Win a championship he may not, but he'll coach an exciting, competitive team.
Sad to see a decent coach wasted because of the selfishness and incompetence of Dolan and the "superstars" he brought in.
As far as Amar'e goes- as Ranger fans, we've been down this road before. Amar'e = Chris Drury.
As far as D'Antoni goes- I love how Knick fans are excited over this like D'Antoni was the sole problem and now ALL OF A SUDDEN the team is going to be great.

Isn't that the point though? to win championships?
You can't win Championships with D'Antoni's system. At the end of the day you'll get swallowed up by good defensive teams.

No, the point is that because of this debacle, his next stop will probably be to go to some small market team and battle for playoff spots, and that's why he won't win a championship.
You can't win championships with players like Carmelo Anthony, JR Smith, and to a lesser extent, Amare Stoudemire, and there isn't a coach in the world that is going to change that. If Phil Jackson wants that idea of him riding great players to unmatched success to finally catch up to them, he'll coach this team. Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant are two of the hardest-working, continuously evolving, winning basketball players in the history of the game. Anthony is a stagnant, one-dimensional, lazy underachiever. Jordan and Bryant are brilliant decision makers on the court, Anthony doesn't understand the game, and it doesn't matter how talented a player is. He doesn't know how to think the game, nine years into his career, he's clearly unwilling to change or learn. Thus, he'll never win in the NBA.
Anthony will never win a championship in this league, and this team is exactly what every Knick fan who wanted him here deserves. Serves them right, serves Dolan right.
Standard point system. 1 point for correct first round pick, 2 points for correct 2nd round pick, 4, 8, 16, all they way up to 32 points for picking the correct National Champion.
I suggest you use your HF name as your bracket name, so we can easily see who is doing well, and who we can make fun of.
Lets go friends, fill this up.
This was a long time coming, I expected D'Anonti to be fired for over a week now. As much as many of us wanted it, Melo was not and will not be moved.
Just hope this change sparks a fire under this team, its just disgusting to watch at this point.
Dantoni inherited a **** sandwich. But let's be honest -- he knew he was walking into a situation where the Knicks had very few assets, and that it was Lebron or bust in 2010.
The Knicks couldnt rebuild the proper way because Zeke traded away all the assets. He was partly to blame for drafting Jordan Hill over Jennings. He also was barely a .500 coach last season before the Melo trade, and the Knicks were maddingly inconsistent while losing to bottom feeders and melting down in the 4th quarter.
He made the right move by quitting. I still dont see him rebuilding a team into Phoenix.
I was reading on RealGM that Jerry Sloan may be interested in coaching the Knicks.
I would be thrilled if he would become the coach of the Knicks. My candidates for next year, in no particular order:
Jerry Sloan
Phil Jackson
Tom Thibadeau
Doc Rivers
Just to name a few. You know, people that actually make you play both ends of the floor. I don't give a crap about the rest of this season. Let Woodson finish it up and then go after one of the big guys.

Sloan- why would he want to coach the Knicks and deal w/ Carmelo when he basically got run out of Utah because he didn't want to deal with Deron Williams?
Phil- He only goes to situations where he knows he will win and everything is in place- this team is a disaster
Thib- why would he leave Chicago when they are the best team in the NBA right now and have the reigning MVP at age 23?
I think Doc is really the only guy on that list who I could see coaching this team.
edit: RL605 reminded me Doc just got an extension so cross him off the list

Thibs will have his option picked up and Doc signed an extension last season.
If I had to guess it's going to be Phil, Sloan, or Calipari as the next head coach.
I feel bad for D'antoni but it needed to be done. We have so much talent on the team this year (and ONLY this year, no JR smith, baron davis next year etc) and we deserve to make the playoffs and make some sound.
I missed the beginning of this press conference, what did Dolan have to say?
He is a horrible speaker. He needs lessons.
- Mutual agreement after both sides talked long
- D'Antoni chose to leave. Wasn't fired.
- Believes in the players.
- Can still make the playoffs. Season isn't over.
- Woodson is the INTERIM coach until season's end.
Dantoni was getting fired. You can tell by the tone and rhetoric from Dolan, GG, Woodson and the team. They are all acting like Dantoni lost his job. I thought he resigned? Dantoni wanted to go out on his terms and screw Dolan over. No way the Knicks make the 8th seed.
