The rats are looking to jump ship. Well done George...

I encourage anyone who is a season ticketholder to email their rep and tell them a price increase with this terrible product that they've put on ice is tough to swallow.

Can't hurt...

Interesting about Eaton. I was just thinking the other day the Caps would look at him. I like Ott, but don't see the Caps interested.

I wonder if Chicago is a possible destination. They are looking for defensemen and have a lot of top six talent.

I don't think that's a playoff roster sans 19.

Decent, nothing flashy. He'd be fine here, but he's not the most durable guy.

I was thinking the same thing. They must bring in C help even if it's just a rental to have a shot.

Why? Not only is he just not a good player (5-7 dman which we have plenty of) but we need a center and a physical dman. He is not either.

I don't necessarily think it's a playoff roster either.

Not what I would do, just the sort of thing I see happening.

McPhee pissed away 8 million dollars of cap space on Schultz, Ward and Knoobs. 8mill would get you a Hell of a 2C and help out the PP.

If Ovi is injured and won't heal while playing (and I don't mean bumps and bruises)... then just shut the ******* doors on the season, rest him, bench Backstrom til next season (or if we make playoffs and he's well).

-Offer Semin a take it or leave it offer for 4-5M for year or two.

Sell,sell,sell... buy some bodies for late picks.

-There's really little upside to pushing your two long-term signies.
-Collect huge assets
-Likely have Caps own pick in top 10-12.
-Retool next season.... and heck may get semin back
-Test Green for health but don't push him/get him killed
-Maintain GMGM/Ted's ability to say Injuries killed us (3 of 4 young guns hurt)

the flaw in that logic is that you still need to hire two more players.

Still have to fill those roster spots.

So if two of them are ~1M players you're talking 6M.

6M C and a 1M D and 1M winger.

Ruutu extended 4 years/$4.4M per per MacKenzie.

Throw $5-6m at a 2C and fill the other bottom 6 spots with bottom 6 players at appropriate salaries is I believe where he's going...

Ruutu at 4.4, or Laich at 4.5?

Laich.

Very similar production-wise. Laich offers more defensively and on the PK.

I'd be shocked if Laich wasn't one of the major comps used in negotiations.

Sounds like an excellent plan! I would try and sell it to Ted/GMGM.

Ovechkin going down for the rest of the season in addition to Backstrom would give them a great excuse to be sellers.

I think then we'd easily get a top 10 pick (assuming we trade the UFAs)

Like it

Ruutu's finalized deal (4.4 was just the initial report) is 4.75 AAV. More than Laich.

Bring it up to Ted when Strung, Mr. Warden, Langway and you have drinks with him this evening.

Ugh, people are going to use this to pretend Laich's contract isn't ridiculous.

haha

Actually Ted just responded to an email of mine. Maybe I am wrong afterall. I think the Caps just may sell and rebuild based on his response.

Perhaps this Ovechkin injury thing is indeed some way to legitimize to the fanbase about the course we take this trade deadline.
