Top 3 here we come, I guess. Sell, retool, get some sweet picks, I'm pretty much giving up on this season yielding anything of worth anyway.

Blues fan here coming to let you know that apparently we've been scouting you guys.

- The Blues have been scouting Washington Capitals' games recently and could have interest in defenseman Roman Hamrlik. Hamrik is finishing up the first season of a two-year, $7 million contract with the Capitals. Hamrlik is a left-handed shooting d-man who has two goals, 10 points and a plus-1 rating in 55 games this season.
Think there's any truth to this? If so, what would you expect that the return would be?

From CBS Sports

Feb. 22 The Washington Capitals are struggling but still don't figure to be sellers. But that doesn't mean nobody on their team is available according to Renaud P. Lavoie of RDS in Canada:"Roman Hamrlik is being shop. The price is high right now."

Not being Sellers would be the icing on the cake of years of poor management.

And it would have been nice to land Vermette. He would not be my first pick as our second line center. But at 3.7 for three years is not a bad deal. And Vermette would be the best we could hope for seeing that no one has the balls to move anyone with any real value. We have to make sure to hold on to the Man of Glass.

We should move Wideman and Hamrlik for as much as we can with the D market how it is right now.
If we can move JFS, I'd do that too, or platoon him and erskine w/ Orlov.

Considering that we basically have an entire line injured, getting some sort of NHL quality return up front should be a priority, because call ups are not getting it done.

Perhaps this Ovechkin injury thing is indeed some way to legitimize to the fanbase about the course we take this trade deadline.
Did he have the following P.S. as well, "BTW, due to unforeseen workers compensation claims this season, we will need to raise prices for next years tickets just a smidge".

Steen and Backes are the salary matches. Not really sure tbh.

I would love to get Backes but I doubt he would be moved unless we are adding to Hammer

I thought he meant that Colorado (at 62) is six points away from 3rd worst (56).

Could be. Orlov has emerged this year as a D. Although a left D he's been playing on the right with Hamrlik. Green is now back in the lineup and the D market is thin this year. I think Hamrlik-types are pretty valuable. Washington can afford to trade a D and I could see Hamrlik bringing the most value back. He's got another year but St Louis has 3 UFA's. He could have value in that respect too without having to tap free agency.

Roman Polak is Czech too so that could help and Halak is a former teammate of Hamr's. And so is D'Agostini. If the defense is young I'm sure he can help - that's his reputation anyway.

There was what seemed to be a sudden drop in Hamrlik's TOI a few weeks ago. And he was taken off of the PK and Schultz has gotten that time. I really don't think it was because of poor play because he actually was playing good there especially with shot blocking. I thought it was strange unless it was done to lessen injury risk.

As far as return - IDK.

The thought of acquiring Backes makes me drool. He epitomizes what we need; a physical, two-way #2C. No chance in hell the Blues ever trade him though.

Just dump Wideman, Schultz, and Hamrlik if for nothing, but cap flexibility moving forward. Forward-wise, its tough to do anything without knowing which OV will have in a given night or the health of Backstrom. The assumption of Semin leaving and replacing him with Kuznetsov, is becoming increasingly risky.

Ha. I don't see Backes or Steen moving. But the Blues boards are all over trying to dump off Stewart to someone.

call me when its a playoff team again. as i get older my time gets tighter. i am not excited about another rebuild. but if they have collapsed, then its necessary. this time, though, will be different.

the capitals havent been a losing team for a long time. they have been up and down but havent been like the islanders in a long time.

be prepared. we are set up for a long run of losing. particularly if ovechkin doesnt handle the bloodletting well.
