Where are you getting your numbers?

I usually go by http://eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=6225

which is usually more accurate than team listings, but either way, whatever size he has, he's not currently using it.

johansson doesnt lose board battle for lack of strenth. IMO. its not his strenth on his skates. its not his willingness to compete. he hits pretty hard. he hits a lot like nick. its subtle but damaging.

the bottom line is that he is in his second season of north american hockey. he will improve with experience.

on the other hand you cant teach his speed. his penalty killing is outstanding. his knack for scoring big goals is obvious. he's not a veteran. give him time.

Finally someone uses logic when it comes to our players...
Ridiculous how much "what have you done for me lately" is actually shown around here when it comes to our young players.

They could trade JJ partly because they want to make room for Voynov, who was sort of stuck in the minors. Probably not in the market for Wideman, at least not for the same value as some other teams.

That proposal doesn't preclude that - you can still ship older guys: Hamrlik, possibly Knoobs (me I'd keep him though and Wideman), as well as other assets (picks, Eakin) to fill the gaping lack of "go f***k yourselfness" in our forward group (a Ruutu or Neil type).

But that proposal is not so much a rebuild mode. It's a let's still try to win now, but if "we don't-think-we-can-succeed-playing-showtime/run n gun," then we need to think about moving an asset that seems only able to thrive playing that way to a team that can help us fill our holes and which wants to play showtime style.

Me, I haven't decided we can't succeed playing showtime style. But the brass doesn't seem to want to play that way, but they're stuck with a core that doesn't seem to be able to do very well playing any other style.

Dude...there's two pictures in this very thread. So either it's a "myspace angle" and MaJo is like 4 steps ahead of Backs or...he's even bigger.

I don't give a rats ass about this team in 3 years. And I'd hope our current situation would align others as well.

So can we get a center NOW? Or do we have to wait until Perreault and Halpern get hurt too?

Listening to lombadri's cc post carter trade and it was abundantly apparent how upset/confused he is about lack of scoring.

-he believes lack of secondary scoring is main issue.... Paging semin
-called out penner specifically
-carter is hockey trade... Not a sign of "going for it"
-they believe in prospect depth at D

Just some food for thought....

Well Ovechkin's obviously not a primary scorer anymore. That deal is looking better and better. Did anyone email Ted yet???

Yeah, the Caps should definitely trade some of their gigantic surplus of secondary scoring to shore up a position of weakness.

Are you still holding serious hope for this season? Cause not everyone is focused on that goal.

I guess I'd do that. I'd much rather get Kopitar and Quick for Ovechkin though.

You think secondary scoring help will magically materialize over the offseason?

By camp of 2012... You'd have brown and a pick... Plus a dump of hammer.

And MAYBE the chance semin comes back. He can be our dougie weight!

From a Washington side? LA would want a 1st added on to that.

Capitals get Brown and 7 million in cap space next year, get rid of Hamrlik's deal for putting up with Penner for 2 months. You'd seriously pass on that?

Semin isn't signed.... So until that happens he's gone in many peoples eyes. In the past he's always been signed by now.

Sure, but that was with a healthy Kuznetsov in the theoretical pipeline. Him going down changes a lot wrt the near future.

Semin's also under team control until July 1. Still a lot of time to sign him.

Dangerous to put all the eggs in the FA basket.
