That's exactly the point. The cap can be changed and much like the economy it can go down.
Then salaries go down.

Sports cap usually does not go down

NFL yearly stayed about the same after that whole fiasco

I understand that, I still don't want to get Nash under the assumption that it doesn't.

I think it's because too many people are unaware of just how good Nash is.

It's also due to the fact that first liners come on the market every season.

No question about that, the question is at what price with that cap hit?

Instead of Rick Nash, maybe we're actually looking at Steve Nash. He could definitely QB our power play. He's Canadian so he probably knows how to skate. Better jump on this before another team does.

I'm still on the fence about Nash but the 93-94 made a ton of moves at the deadline and the deadline was much later then.

The 93-94 team also OWNED the Devils with Gartner and Amonte in the lineup. After the trade deadline? Not so much. We made it out of the ECF by the skin of our teeth.

The 93-94 team was after years of having good teams that couldn't take the next step (except 92-93, which was bad... mostly a combination of injury and a Captain-Coach dispute). If we get to that point, where we've had a couple of years with this team and little success, then we can make these trades. Historical context is important.

Yes the 93-94 team made a lot of trades, and I was only four years old at that point so I can't really speak to whether or not those trades were good or bad. I do know that there are plenty of fans who believe that the cup run would have been easier without those trades. I don't know personally, just floating that idea.

As for Nash, I think he is an excellent player, and I think almost everyone agrees with that. However, his price tag, meaning his contract, is too much for me to swallow. Then when you throw in having to trade assets, and potentially lose some future assets, I am completely turned off by the idea. If this team wasn't primed to be so good for so long, and it really was a now or never situation, I might be more inclined to pull the trigger on a trade. It isn't now or never though, at least I don't think so.

If Nash returns to his 40 goal scoring ways, I can live with the cap hit. Only $300k more than Gaborik, but is 3 years younger and doesn't have the injury history.

Bob McKenzie says Kings inching to lead on Rick Nash. Our take is major factor is NYR refusal to put Derek Stepan into the bargain.
If Columbus thinks they are getting Stepan then they can **** off.

The Kings can have him. I think they're a better trading partner for CLB anyway.

LA is desperate for scoring. They also have a goalie and D that they're willing to give up. CLB can use both.

2013 UFA market...Crosby , Perry , Getzlaf and Jordan Staal . That is not that far away . Imagine a team with Crosby...Richards...Kreider ...Cally...Hagelin and Stepan and our Blueline and Hank in goal ! Maybe we are panicking a bit much !

Yeah basically.

My offer is:
Dubinsky + futures...
I'd prefer picks over prospects to be honest. We don't really need anymore prospects...We are in a great spot with young players.

I'd be willing to do max:

Dubi, Christian Thomas, 1st 2012, 1st 2013

Agreed, I was talking about price in terms of prospects. I am not willing to include Stepan or McDonagh, Plus Kreider.

The Nash contract goes to 2018 and Gaboriks goes until 14.

I just don't understand why whenever a big name is mention Ranger fans NEED that guy.

Our team right now is successful because of drafting developing and sticking with the plan why the hell would we reverse that just when it's working.

It's not very likely any of these players actually reach UFA status.
