really good signing, especially moving forward. You want a guy like Brodziak setting an example for the Larssons, Coyles, Zuckers, etc. because he honestly works his arse off.
The reality is that Brodziak's value to the team is more than what we would get back in a trade.
Also, I'm not sure how you get 3mil going to Granlund. Per NHL.com:
Quote:
Entry Level players will be subject to a maximum annual salary (plus signing and games played bonuses) of $850,000 for 2005 and 2006 draftees; $875,000 for 2007 and 2008 draftees; $900,000 for 2009 and 2010; and $925,000 for 2011 draftees.
I like how people are a bit put off by 2.83 but something like 2.5 is ok. This is a great price tag this guy plays what he is asked to play and he embodies what this team needs more off, guys who dont ***** just play and work their ass off.
He wi be a great mentor, hell he might go on a tear and we make the playoffs.
Also, I'm not sure how you get 3mil going to Granlund. Per NHL.com:
Performance bonuses, considering he's a highly touted prospect, he might only make like 900,000 salary, but performance bonuses could put another 1-2 million on top of that.

I don't think it would be out of the question to expect 3 million gone for both Latendresse and Granlund combined.
Looking back at other 9-11 picks in previous drafts (Couture, MPS, Hodgson) has their ELC at ~ $1.5, so I don't know if we just expect Granlund to go for the max or what. Factor in cap increases and such and I would anticipate Granlund getting over $2m.
I think Lat's QO needs to be at least a 10% increase on his current contract (could be wrong on that).
^If Lats can stay healthy and we can keep him for three years at like 2.75 million, hell I'd throw the deal at him just based on the fact sooner or later he has to be healthy. And the concussion wasn't his fault, you can't defend against somebody running you.

Yeah. I had recently just edited my post. Corrected it to 4 million.
As far as Lats is concerned, I dug this up on NHL.com:
Quote:
Players earning $660,000 or less will be entitled to qualifying offers (QO) at 110% of their prior year's salary; players earning more than $660,000 and up to $1 million will be entitled to QOs at 105% of prior year's salary; players earning more than $1 million will be entitled to QO at 100% of their prior year's salary
Based on that I think we can expect Lats' salary to maintain at 2.5/yr. If Granlund gets 1.5/yr that would put us at 4.
To me this signing is a strong candidate for the old "contract year + bad team" inflation. It looks okay now. In a couple years with a better team it probably doesn't. Really, stats-wise Brodziak has not had a great season. He's getting loads of ice time for that modest, very streaky offense. And he leads the team in areas you don't want (team goals against). We shall see down the road.

Yeah, I'm sure in 2-3 years, we're all going to deeply regret the fact that Brodz is overpaid by maybe $500k. This move definitely brings more potential pros than cons.
Very cool. It's always nice when a player walks the talk. He says he loves it here and nobody works harder. He needs to be lettered next year, not saying which letter...but...
Cap hit is very fair. Term is great. He will be a great transition guy. I still think he's a lot like Wes Walz in his work ethic, hustle, determination, and ability to fill different roles.
To be clear, he's an above average third line center, but I think between Mikko's injury history, Granlund being small and a rookie, and Cullen's streakiness, it is a smart move to keep him here.
Slightly more than a 3rd line center deserves but then again we're not cap-strapped and 3 years works with the ELCs beginning next season. Glad to see Fletcher got things done before the deadline with him.
Looking like Fletcher won't be very active in free agency. Don't expect him to sign a forward now unless he moves someone.

A big potential con is that with him here we don't get someone who's better. Or if we do upgrade we don't get good value for him. He's no Wes Walz. This year there hasn't been much "two" in Brodziak's "way" game.
It's a signing you almost have to make, but there's no nothing special about the player or the deal.

He will talk to Parise. Not saying he will sign him or even be on the shortlist, but like 2/3 of the teams are at least going to put a call in, and among those he's probably in the top third or so in position to make a lucrative offer.
But I'll agree that if Parise signs with someone else, Fletch probably won't be pursuing anyone at forward.
