i'll have to dig up my notes on the sort of insurance the wild carry for their players, but it is shockingly greater than any other team.

most teams insure their top five salaries.

The Wild insure their top five at 100% and then the next 10 highest salaries at 80%. it is this part which is above and beyond most teams.

Wild captain Mikko Koivu out with aggravated shoulder injury; shut down at least 2 more weeks

They should shut him down for the rest of the season IMO.

Shut him down for the season. Two weeks is close enough to the end.

Not to mention, we're pretty much already at a lost cause.

Anyone else get ridiculously fed up with Fletchers inability to just tell the truth sometimes?

"We weren't trying to hide his injury..."

Oh you weren't, Chuck?? I guess that's why the injury was undisclosed this whole time huh?

On another note, Koivu has got to stay healthy a for a season. He can't keep missing time during critical stretches of the season. Two years in a row, whether or not they are "his fault", he needs to be in the lineup.

We're out of the playoffs. I'm ticked that he rushed back. Yeah, you want to help the team, but you end up taking yourself out longer. There's no reason to come back now. Heal and just support the guys from the pressbox.

Just go get surgery on it in Finland already, and get healed in time for next season.

I'm so fed up with Koivu right now. Quit trying to come back. Were dead in the water, and you'll blow your shoulder completely.

Koivu sure as hell better not even consider the WC's this year. and if he does Fletcher better be willing to put him in his place.

He will play. Finland is the host country this year, and he is a national hero along with FBJ.

If he is healthy by then I see why not. If its not 100% sure then stay out.

To be blunt, neither of those factors mean a damn thing to the Wild

there is zero chance that he will be 100%, and even if he gets healthy enough to play, The Wild arent paying him to rehab his shoulder so its ready for the WC's

I'd be pretty disappointed if Koivu sits the season and goes to play the WC. I'm sure he'll play a token couple of meaningless games at the end of the year. And I'd be impressed if he does the responsible thing and sits until summer.

After his shoulder injury a couple years back, he hasn't looked the same. He claims he couldn't get the training in over the summer. Then last summer he was screwing around with the WC and army and came back once again slower than normal. He needs to re-dedicate himself and live up to his contract and captaincy.

But they mean a lot to Koivu. He is captain of the Finnish team, and trust me, WC is a big deal over here. Don't trust me?

Yeah, that's Mikko Koivu holding the "boy", or "son" as the trophy is called. And what's that around him? The Finnish team and about 100 000 Finns who've made it to the square from their hangover. Do you even realize what WC means to the Finns? Koivu would be lynched if he would miss out without being injured. Of course, as a Wild fan, I hope Koivu doesn't risk another injury to play, but as a Finn, I want to see Mikko Koivu captaining the Lions to another gold... If he's 100%.

I know how much the WC's mean to you guys/Mikko. I loved watching him and Granlund last year, and will watch and chear him on again this year if he plays, but i wont be happy with his decision.

The WC's can become a priority for Koivu when team Finland is on the hook for 47Million, until then he needs to take his orders from the Wild.

I hope he won't pull an Andrei Markov...

If he isn't 100% that time, he shouldn't play. Doesn't mean he can't be around the team I believe.

Exactly. Mikko's being paid big money by the Wild, not by Finland's national team.

Koivu needs to take a look at his long term health. Yeah, hes holding out hope that his shoulder is "good enough" to play some NHL games and in the WC, and I get that...you want to represent both teams. You are both teams Captain and you feel a lot of pressure to step up and fight through things.

But sometimes the injuries just have to take priority. You need to consider the future, and I really think Koivu should be looking at doing whatever he possibly can to get his shoulders fully healthy and reconditioned back to top form so he can perform better on BOTH the Wild and Finnish National Team in the future.

Zero chance? There is still good couple of months to go before the WCs and he is estimated to be off for 2 weeks now. I'd like him to go for a month, maybe get a few meaningless NHL games or not, but if he is healthy he will come to play in the championships. Of course if he is injured and still comes and plays in them, then we can only blame him for taking a chance at ruining his own career.
