Don't worry, the NHL more and made up for that lucky bounce we had by stealing our goal at the end of the period.
No goal was stolen...we saw this last year in the PO's against the Caps if memory serves me correctly...replays showed a puck going in but the clock inset in the pic was NBC's not the official clock.
Two top 5 offenses in Boston (during their hottest streak of the season) and Detroit (albeit at a cold streak) each scored 1 goal against Columbus this season. No I wasn't happy with it going into OT and this team still needs a scorer or two, but let's keep things in perspective.
Columbus was coming off a 6 - 1 thumping Saturday, Rangers were at home resting up and preparing for two days. I'm trying to keep things in perspective, a win is a win, just shouldn't be so hardto get two points from the worst team in hockey in the second game of a back to back. Goals are even harder to come by in the playoffs..
I'm of the opinion we need more punch offensively if we plan on advancing past the likes of Pitts, NJ, Boston, Phil, Wash(?)..All of whom have more offensive creativity and skill. Yes I'm aware they have weakness's outside of their offensive capabilities that negate the edge in pure skill... But it's defense first come the post season, unlike the regular season, after that it's skill and creativity that usually wins games. I'm not 100% for trading for Nash, but we need some offensive creativity from somewhere, or someone...
The Rangers system is a post season style of hockey, defense first, score a goal when you can..Just a little concerned about playing teams with more skill once they change their philosophy as well..The Rangers have a hard time scoring when they should, for example on the powerplay, not due to lack of effort, just lack of true offensive ability outside of one or two players...
Columbus beat the Blues last week. Boston lost to Winnipeg and Minnesota. There are no easy games.
Maybe if Sather can find anyone who can win a face-off,the Rangers wouldn't have been in OT.
i totally agree. i know that last place teams beat first place teams and it's going to happen. but when the Rangers dominate like they did with nothing to show for it. It's not like the Jackets came out as the underdogs and scraped and fought hard for the point. they pretty much stood there all night and the Rangers skated and danced around them and couldn't sink anything.

We could certainly use someone who can bury the puck - we controlled the puck the whole game and out-chanced them by a mile - but there is no sense breaking up the whole team to get one. The Flyers have lots of guys who can bury the puck, they have no defense or goaltending and are going nowhere fast.
couple of things i wanted to talk about but im too lazy to go back and quote everyone.
On Hagelin:
He was frikkin awesome last night. Kid is such a good board player for someone so small and fast, its ridiculous. Wish he could get a little more zip on his shots, but hes a very good, very smart, very effective player. You could put him on any line and have it be effective. Such a versatile player. Adaptability is something you see so rarely these days. Guys are going for specialty focuses...he can shoot...he can pass, he can play the boards, he can PK....Hagelin can do it ALL, very well. Much like Ryan Callahan.
On MDZ:
Easily the first star of the game, not sure which genius decided to give it to Cally, because i for one didnt think Cally was even one of the first 3 stars of the game, but, whatever. MDZ is turning into a stud. MCD is turning into a stud. Girardi and Staal were/are already studs. 4 awesome defenseman on 1 team, pretty tough to match up against em, unless they are having a bad game a-la Chicago...this is one of the HUGE reasons we don't seem to go on losing streaks, our D can shut you down, and can provide offense. It would be criminal to deal any of the 4 guys. 4 stud deefenseman with awesome contracts, all young, all love being Rangers. I seriously can not remember this having happened in my lifetime as a Ranger fan. Even Leetch-Zubov-Beuke were only a trio...whose the 4th super d-man there?
granted, none of our 4 are as good as Leetch or Zubov were offensively, but still...4 of em, so awesome.
This also leads to...the offense.
Can't seem to finish our chances, This team needs someone who can finish so badly its not even funny. Carter had one of the best scoring chances in the game, and it took a spectacular save by Henrik to stop it. If Carter can be had on the cheap, I cant see a reason not to get him.
In a Machiavellian sense Tort's saying the no goal 'was the right call'--is a smart move--whether he believes it or not. He burned some bridges with on ice officials at the winter classic (though he was right)--since we won last night anyway--might as well do some repair work.
CBJ beat the Canucks and took Boston and Detroit to shootouts. These clubs aren't push overs in any sense of the word, they're all professional hockey players for a reason and made it to the NHL for a reason. They don't just roll over and die because they're playing a team higher than them in the standings.
