Dubnyk gives up on a lot of shots. Don't think he has the mental capacity to ever be a solid #1 option. Can you imagine him in a playoff series giving up his patented one weak goal a game?
In other news we were playing the Canucks, a reasonably good and dedicated team, and they shut the door tonight. Topline didn't have an inch to work with all night. Maybe that was noticed, maybe not..
Right, but we weren't talking about "90% of NHL forwards (fact, I'm sure), we were talking about Gagner. I highly doubt 90 percent of NHL players go 10 games with 1 or 2 points when given top minutes. But, I suppose IATL isn't the only one with an "agenda."
It's ok to be a fan of Gagner, like myself, and point out that he goes missing for long streaks. It's happened his whole career.
Edmonton Oilers @NHL_Oilers
"Looks like Magnus and Hemmer are getting some synergy, which is really good for us. Maggie is taking a step." - Coach Krueger
I think I agree with Krueger. It's surprising though. Up to this game, I thought Hemsky and Paajarvi had negative chemistry. I can't even count how many times Hemsky disregarded an easy pass to Paajarvi and proceeded with a low-percentage one instead.
I'm no scout. And even less sure of myself when it comes to goalies. But how does a guy with slow brain function, slow reflexes and bad hand eye coordination become an NHL goalie? How did he get drafted in the first round? And what in the name of heaven are you hoping will happen to this goalie after all these years? That all these shortcomings will magically fix themselves with experience?
That junior B wrist shot that blew by Dubnyk's glove hand would have been stopped by most bantam age goalies. And he lets in one of those a game. He wanders around behind the net like an elephant stoned on pot. Hum de dum de dum.
I hate being cruel but he plays goal worse than Corey Cross played D.
I have no idea how he managed to make it into this league. I swear I see guys in the BCHL that could flat out outplay him night in and night out.
And Khabby tweaks his groin and pulls himself out of a game a week before the trade deadline? Great. Just great. Send him to Kiev to await further instructions.
Olivier Roy just a had a great week in the ECHL (I think I read that somewhere lol). Call him up. Please.
If a guy got drunk for an entire week I wonder if he'd be lucky enough to forget he was a fan of this sack of **** hockey team. I'm gonna try it.

The Gagner that has 17pts in his last 10GP. That Gagner? Doesn't look like a player with 1, 2 pts in his last 10gp. So What you talkin bout Willis?
Its hardly atypical of the vast majority of NHL forwards to have cold stretches. Even reasonably good players. The vast majority of forwards anywhere go though major dry spells.
If by the bolded do you mean does it happen to 90% of NHL forwards? Absolutely.
Has it occurred repeatedly to them? Yes.
Not sure what you think you got here.

Are you saying Khabby is faking the groin injury? He's not as he does have a history of groin injury. Khabby has missed games 10 games and 6 games the two previous times with groin injuries.

I wonder this myself. He is not going to be a #1 goalie. Anyone is better than Dubnyk going forward.

Oh boy. This made me laugh out loud. Poor guy though. I feel for him, I really do.
In answer to your question of why, I think his size has a lot to do with it. The last ten or more years, its been more about how tall/big the goalie is and less about how athletic/quick they are. You used to see a lot of small goalies. Not anymore. If you arent at least six foot, you are pushing a boulder uphill as far as being considered an elite goalie. There are exceptions, but I think this has been the trend.
I would love to see what a Paajarvi RNH Hemsky line would look like. Hemsky has been pretty solid the last 10 games or so and Paajarvi is starting to look more confident.
Smyth worries me big time. 5 points in his last 20 games. He has been on a pretty steady decline since the start of the season. As ugly as his skating is, he used to be able to get around the ice pretty well. Now he just looks slow. If we bring him back, his minutes better be monitored. It is ridiculous that the coaching staff has been playing him 20 minutes a night.
I'm so sick of watching Oiler players being mesmerised by the puck carrier on the Sedins line. I get it, the guy with the puck is never the dangerous one. Seems as though Barker is the only d-man who consistantly takes care of players in his territory before they actually get the puck.
He "turned the puck over" for one of the Canucks goals but the reality is that he passed the puck to a place where he should have had support and for some reason Horc was watching someone outside the blueline instead of making himself available.
Tough game to watch. It never really felt like they were in it even when they were having their way for a while in the 2nd period.
I actually hope that Khabi is gone for a while. I want to see Danis given a chance. He seriously can't be worse than the goaltending we've gotten so far.

I would bet a fair bit of money that if the Oilers had run a Danis/Gerber tandem in net these past 2 years (and they certainly could have because they had both of them signed to contracts... dirt cheap contracts as well)... they'd have won a fair number of games just from that upgrade of the goaltending.
Honestly their AHL goaltending these past 2 years is far better than the NHL duo of Rusty and Sieve that's been taking turns seeing who can have longer losing streaks.
Vasilevski is looking better and better all the time as a choice for the Oilers... I REALLY hope they can snag another 1st round pick and choose him.
Skimmed through a few pages of your comments and you all seem to have really turned on Dubnyk... what happened? I recall you (as in Oilers fans on HF) were pretty excited about his development early in the season.
For the record I didn't think he played terrible. He didn't steal the game for you, but when your D and forwards are turning pucks over at the rate the Oilers were doing tonight, it's unfair to expect the goalie to bail the team out for the entire night.
Cheers guys, I can't dislike the Oilers after they embarassed Chicago a few times.
