1) Gonchar is probably making too much for this to make sense to the 'Hawks.
2) Gonchar is too valuable to the Sens (and their playoff hopes) to move him for a 'spect

Atrocious proposal. Chicago is not going to deal their best d prospect for someone 38 years old with a 5.5 caphit.

Yes. The Sens have a very good thing happening and could use the space this would free up to go hard in FA. Any mentoring Gonchar was doing for Karlsson has already happened and it's time to improve the offense. Gonchar is great, but if you trade him now your team could be much better in 2-3 years.

no i feel the same. If Murray really has to move someone then move Kuba this year as he is a ufa and gonchar next year. I dont think losing both Kuba and Gonchar by the summer is wise for this team

I highly doubt Chicago wants Gonchar's contract next year.

Me too but we need help. If we are at the TD and have not acquired a D-man, then we'll just have to deal with Gonchar's contract over getting nothing given that we have more than enough cap space to make it all work. And like I said, we take him as a cap dump, no quality going back.

Bowman has had opportunities to acquire soon to be UFA D-men for 2nd round draft picks and punted. He's backing himself into a corner big time.

I don't disagree that they need help but I think that $5.5M could be better spent on building up some much needed depth.

i have no idea how good your d prospect is. i am just throwing this out there.

Kuba, DaCosta and Nashvilles 3rd for that guy.

Kuba gives you help on the back end.
DaCosta is a strong center that can be developed and take over the 2nd line center position in a year or twos time.

How is the value?

Whoa stop the clock.
Ottawa has about 14 million in cap space available to /o hard in FA anyway. Next year the will have another 11 million on top of that.

More than anything we need a a top 2 two way defenceman to compliment Cowen and Karlsson not forwards.
We have spezza, turris down the middle we are committed to with zbad and Noesen waiting, on the wings we have a seemingly endless number of prospects with Stone, silverberg, prince, petersson and puempl who we are in various stages of readiness.
And lehner as the goalie of the future.

We need a top 3 forward and a top 2 dman (or one that projects there) if we go out for anything IMO otherwise a minor part perhaps for the playoffs, anything else is a waste of assets and money.
Anything

Rebuild or not I dont think you deal your top pairing defenseman while you are still in a playoff spot... In the past few years Murray/Melnyk have both mentioned multiple times how even 1 playoff round= Big $$$... I dont think you mess with his and Karlsson's chemistry..

Gonchar I would have no problem trading but I dont know how many teams are interested in him at his price with another year left...

If rather bowman use that 5.5 cap hit on depth. Gonchar is an old man and not worth giving up Olsen for

If we trade Gonchar it's gonna be better than that. With the current trade market (or any for that matter) the sens aren't adding a 3rd. A first would have to be coming back.

No way. Dylan Olsen has made many rookie mistakes since he came up - but has also shown he might be very good a few years from now.

He's not the only one. We're just less vocal about it.

Can't speak for this trade offer as I know nothing of the prospect involved but sounds like Hawks' fans are saying he's their best D prospect so I'd be hesitant to do that trade as well if I was them unless Gonchar was that one piece that really increased their chances of being a serious cup contender this year. I can't speak to that as I don't follow the Hawks.

As for Ottawa, I've been advocating for trading Kuba and Gonchar for a long time and that sentiment did not go away with their improved play this year. I understand that it might hurt our playoff chances or how well we do in them if we trade one or both of those guys but no one says we can't bring in rentals to replace them for now. At least the rebuilding wouldn't be affected and room would be made for some acquisitions this summer.

Phoenix, NYR, Dallas, Calgary, maybe even LA all seem like they could use a Gonchar type DMan more. From those teams I'd be interested in Boedker, Visentin, Anisimov, Thomas, Ott, Larsen, Chiasson, Nemisz, Butler, Voynov and Forbort.

Making the playoffs is never an 'added bonus'. It is why you draft and build in the first place, a chance to win a cup. Everyone of the 16 teams have a chance. I agree they should not be big buyers or anything, but making playoffs would mean guys like Cowen, Turris, Smith, Karlsson....get more playoff experience.

Sens system is stacked, they don't need to be collecting 2nd round picks and middling prospects that would not have much room in the Ottawa system anyway for Kuba and Gonchar etc.

Also consider that Ottawa is now only 2 pts for 1st place in their division behind Boston.
