Or perhaps a 2C? Or perhaps a 2W? Or perhaps a 1D? Or perhaps dumb Wideman, Knuble and Schultz to free up cap space and draft picks. Idk that all makes too much sense to me.

Or wait I know lets go collect ever sub 23 year old that has some sort of potential. Perhaps the league will decide we have so much potential that they should just give us the cup without playing any games.

I fully expect that. He's not going to say anything publicly until he announces a change. I don't expect anything to be done until the end of the regular season or the date we are eliminated from the playoffs.

The funny thing is, Jagr performed better than OV does now.

My sentiments exactly, though I don't know enough to know whether Hunter would improve given time. he did exceptionally well in the minors and developed some great players. How much of that was him versus their own natural talent I can't say. One thing I HAVE noticed under Hunter is that the defensive nature of his play seems to mean that we don't put any traffic in front of goalies. there's no one in the slot, and Peters has been able to see virtually everything.

I'd give the C to Laich, and maybe that would take some "pressure" off of Ovechkin. They only gave him the C because Crosby had it, anyway.

Someone needs to force Ovechkin to attend EVERY practice, optional or not. Folks know his moves and it doesn't require double-teaming to defend him anymore because everyone knows what he's going to try to do, so he needs to learn some new moves. Anyone notice in the Tampa game that every time he hit a post or fanned a shot he looked skyward with that WTF look, but was essentially out of the plays while doing so? Trading him would probably be a bad plan, as you're right, he'd probably bounce back out of spite.

Any suggestions for coaches out there?

Me too, this is so much like 1997, except we didn't have the offensive talent.

Learn more about hockey before you go saying stuff like this... He's a winger its the centers job to get back.

Only good thing about that 97 trade was Sinden chose Carrey over Olie

It's the responsibility of whoever the high forward happens to be. He was the high forward.

Who are you kidding? He doesn't have the balls to do something like that. Such panic trade would actually improve this team for the long term. Getting a 2C would be a godsend.

Not re-signing Wideman would be a huge mistake.

wait wait wait. If he's put together a decent team, then he should get a chance to get a veteran coach this offseason.

If he hasn't (and I'm leaning towards this team is flawed in all probability, with their 2 best players gone) then he should get whacked.

I mean can we logically defend him? He's so off he doesn't deserve defending. That doesn't mean I'm ready to trade him. He's the best player this franchise has ever had. Unless its for a Lindross type return, we lose that trade every time IMO.

This is more painful than watching my Braves lose in the playoffs all those years in the 90s. This guy is so good, but he needs a mental remake somehow. Just not sure how or who the Caps need to trade for to get him out of his funk.

The Caps have a plethora of two things, young defensemen and wingers. If you want to make a trade you deal from a surplus not a weakness. Mojo and Carlson would yield a very good return. Too bad our GM is too much of a ***** to actually make a trade to improve this team.
When a team is in turmoil, you can't judge young players like that. Confidence and a certain comfort zone is a much bigger issue with them, and right now it looks like the team has none. Also much more than with established players, their trade value can drop like a rock when they are struggling.

It's sad when I'm excited about a harmless shot.
