Oh wow, never knew this. I'd be licking my chops at this deal then. Get Ott to buy into our system, and boom. Maybe even having a guy from Dallas come with Ott to Vancouver would be more comfortable for him anyways?

Him being 5'11, 178lbs doesn't intrigue me that much.
Would be fine with giving up Rodin, we have to make moves that improve us in the near term and we have a couple holes that may be perfectly filled by Robidas (minute munching RHD) and Ott (versitile gritty forward).

Hrm, this could be good. Especially if he has prior trust with Robidas and gives him proper ice time and special teams time to get into a groove and take time away from Salo..

Exactly. I'd give Rodin in a heartbeat if it meant we acquire Ott and Robidas. They'd bolster our lineup in such a positive way.

Salo and Robidas could even consistently switch with each other to eat minutes up in every game or something. It would help preserve Robidas and Salo's energy.

Getting Ott would be sick. If MG knows he'll buy into how our team acts like he did with Lapierre then we're set. He can slot in a ton of different places in the top 9 if need be.
And getting Ott would mean Hodgson is always playing with someone like Ott, Higgins, or Booth.

Sedin - Sedin - Burrows
Booth - Kesler - Higgins
Ott - Hodgson - Hansen
Lapierre - Malhotra - Weise

That's a hell of a top 9! Please MG!!!!

Steve Ott is one of the players I was really hoping the Canucks would look at during the trade deadline. I really hope we can get a deal done. I think MG knows how close this team is and that Ott would be a definite playoff upgrade over Raymond.

He might be good in our system, it's hard to say. He's a pest and a good one. Players who you love to hate for sure.

I'd say get him if it's for MayRay or a 2nd and 4th.

Have to have Raymond going back, can't afford just to take on Ott, if that's what you mean by the bolded.

Another benefit of an Ott-Hodgson-Hansen line would be the effect he could have on Hansen's style of play.

It seems to me Hansen tends to take on a similar style of play to his linemates. When he's playing with a Lappy or Higgins, he tends to match their physicality. When Raymond is on his line, he tends to lose his physicality and tries to play more of a skill role that doesn't really suit him.

Ott might well bring out the beast in Hansen on a more consistent basis.

Excited by the news from Mckenzie.

Think he would be a really great pickup.

Now hopefully we can can get Ott + Robidas...

We all know Higgins/Kesler/Booth work well together on that 2nd line much more so than Raymond Kesler Booth, so getting Ott to move to the third line and take all critical draws for Hodgson would be perfect.

Yes, I heard Bob Mack on Team 1040 earlier this afternoon say the Canucks are in the running...if that is what you are referring to.

You'd also have to think that Ott would provide Hodgson with a little more room out there, especially in comparison to Raymond. Hodgson is an outstanding rookie, but he's still (understandably) prone to getting lost in tight checking games. If Ott can buy him an extra second with the puck, not to mention provide a decent target for Hodgson to pass to, that third line becomes immeasurably better.

I know Raymond is good defensively, but having Ott there would be great for Hansen and Hodgson defensively as they wouldn't have as much pressure on them to do so. Ott, as you said, would open up more room for them as well which could really bring out Cody's offensive game.

If we do get Ott, he better stop yapping like Lapierre, Burrows, and Kesler and play in between whistles.
