The benefit of the Post reporting good news is this:
If the Post is correct, there was a problem but crisis has now been averted (at least temporarily. However, if the Post is full of it, then there was never a problem to begin with. Win/win as far as rationalization and denial goes.
That's a good way to look at it. There's no downside to it, unless the Post was right about everything else, and this one is erroneous.
That and if we suddenly make a deadline deal they don't have to explain how the 'secret' payroll wasn't a factor cause help is on the way. If we don't make a big deal, they can say we're still on a budget until the money is approved.
I'm guessing that this is more likely.. Just wait, at the end of the season their "source" will claim our finances are back in the crapper and it will effect resignings.. Then, Zach will resign and the next day will be an article about how we found an investor moments before signing Zach and their "source" knew it all along
My guess is that they know nothing and just want to **** with us
It's Dolan. He's trying to make the 3 home arenas, brah thing more reality than just a statement. That, or its Vince McMahon as this will be the focal point of a huge WWE story line that will meet its resolution at Wrestlemania at MetLife Stadium in 2013. Vince vs. Bettman with Ted Dibiase re-appearing, winning the match somehow, and becoming the new owner. Boom

Yeah, it's the timing that makes me suspicious, a week before the deadline after they said we were getting deals nixed by the league. It's brilliant in a way though, they've basically covered themselves no matter what happens.
NY Post writes some negative articles about the financial problem : F The NY Post! They suck and are just speculating! They never get anything right! They are just being biased Ranger fans wanting to see us struggle!
NY Post writes something positive about the financial problem: Yay things are getting better! Sounds good! Thanks NY Post!
lol, beat me to it. It's so rich. Thanks a million
1) It can't be Dolan because he already owns a team
2) the league put a deadline of 2/15 for them to come up with a business plan. so if the news broke and is true after 2/15, the league has already approved whatever happened.
3) no one is moving to freaking Hartford.

No he means that whatever the deal is it was already agreed upon last week and we're just hearing about it now.
Yep, that's what I was saying. I don't think it's great news, because it reminds me of the Einhorn bustout with the Mets, which means more drama, but it's not bad news either because on 2/15 the league could have taken the team.
Again, if this is true, but it's the first news that's been out since that date, so....
I dont like uncertainty. The "mystery investor" is clearly confident that JVDB wont come up with the $$$. And given the Devils arent much of an "investment", I'm going with the usual rich guy's toy hypothesis.
Quote:
The Devils are “very close” to a deal in which a new investor will pay down the company’s $80 million in overdue debt and give Vanderbeek until the start of next season to raise new capital.
But the financial lifeline comes with strings attached, these sources said. If Vanderbeek can’t line up additional capital by the fall, he would be forced to sell the team, sources said.
The mystery investor has exchanged term sheets with the lending group and Vanderbeek, a source said.
And this bit's odd.
Quote:
Vanderbeek is working with little-known investment bank, Three Ocean Partners, to raise new equity, and is pretty far along, a source said. The Devils were unavailable for comment.
Interesting.

Three Ocean Partners LLC is an investment and merchant banking boutique formed in December 2011
Apparently, the guy who is a founding partner advised on the sale of the Liverpool soccer club, which makes me wonder if this endgame really is about raising equity, or eventually selling the team.

It's Prokhorov, the sonnova***** is investing everywhere now - buying out my soccer team it seems.
he already has an NBA team, now he invests in a soccer team, and next year he'll rip the Devils from JVB.
Screencap this, you know I'm true.
Prohorov is running for Russia's equivalent of a president. He's apparently within a few percentages of qualifying for a runoff against Putin. If he wins, he's said he will sell all of his businesses.
