As long as Lou Lamoriello has full autonomy of the team and no restrictions, the we could be owned by al-Queda and I wouldn't care less.

I get that there is always that fear with ownership issues, but realistically is that a worry?
I mean, you get rid of the debt and the Devils are nowhere near the bottom in revenue.
Just seems like there would be a lot of teams ahead of them in line in the event of relocation.

That said, what can we as fans do to to effect the situation?
That's kind of a serious question, maybe deserving a thread.
Given that the Devs marketing is....well...subpar
Maybe there is more that fans can do to promote the team. Invest some of our own time and effort into getting people in the area into the team. Any ideas?

When he said "Rock ya red, Jersey Devils rock ya red", he probably didn't realize he was talking about our transactions ledgers.

The problem is, this is a bit like saying, "you get rid of the icebergs and the Titanic is nowhere near that vulnerable of a ship".

The Devils debt is absolutely staggering.

I still don't understand how it happened. I get the Arena was costly but is it possible that the Devils got screwed by Sharpe James?

Which means the logical course of action is to get out of debt

we arnt exactly losing money, we just arnt making anything that doesnt go towards the debt

But at the same time....if we take $90m or whatever it was........then we're $90m in debt

They arent exactly making money either. Which is a big problem when you're massively in debt.

You can buy tickets to games and bring friends/family that otherwise would not attend a Devils game. Get em hooked.

That is a nice thing about the prudential center. It really is a decent arena, so I dont mind buying several tickets in the 100s or 200s instead of just 2 in the lower bowl. So far though I've only had luck hooking one friend. Took him to one game and right after it he bought a MB30 jersey.

The Rock is an amazing arena. Not a decent one.

Fair enough, its an understatement, but in my mind while typing 'decent' I was thinking of the word in a really exclamative cool way.....Like the Fonz saying "Whoo, she has some decent boobs"

I am a homer though.

IMO, the Devils have the best uniforms, logo, name, and aforementioned arena.

I've been reading this thread forward and backwards, where did this talk of moving to Hartford come from?!? I mean I'd love to see the Whale return, but I don't want US to become the damn whale.

There was an article a few months ago that the owner of Wendy's was interested in buying the Devils, but apparently he's not in good standing with the NHL because his intent is to purchase a team and move it to Hartford. I guess he's lied to the NHL before and is trying to cut corners in order to get a team moved in Hartford, which Bettman is not happy about.

You don't have to worry about it though, as long as the Devils are tied to Prudential Center the chances of us moving are astronomically slim.

But what if the ties are cut? And how would that happen?

They have a 30 year lease with the arena.

If they feel the Devils couldn't pay the money back, forcing them for sale would give that investor(s) the chance to buy them and move them. Again, that's a pessimistic approach, and even if that were the motivation of an investor, just because the team would be up for sale doesn't mean that person would even be the one who ends up buying the team. After all, Phoenix would likely be that person's target if that were the case.
I don't know if anyone replied to this or not but :

Shouldn't it be a bit difficult to move the Devils ANYWHERE since they'd have to find a way to break the contract/lease they currently have at the Prudential Center which is, I believe, for the next 30 years?

Oh and how about breaking the contract of the very profitable MSG TV Deal?

I think if there was a new owner, the Devils aren't going anywhere. Just saying....

EDIT : and as I post this, I noticed that it was discussed. Silly me.
