Honestly, im starting to think Nash will be a Ranger.

We've heard different rumors about Columbus' asking price, but we haven't really seen any official news from McKenzie or other reputable guys claiming the Rangers are out. This leads me to think this is going to come to Howson trying to budge Sather on one of our core guys before the deadline, but in the end, Howson wants to get rid of Nash's contract and he settles for something like:

Dubi, McIrath, Thomas/Miller, 1st, 2nd.

I see what you are saying, but if we get Nash - we have this year and 2 more years with Nash, Gaborik, Lundqvist and the rest of the RFAs to make cup runs. Doesn't that sound more ideal than not having Nash for those 3 years? After the third year we lose Gabby. And we have cap space again.

Only way I can see Nash working is if we trade Gaborik in the offseason.

Well that last part is true, but that 6 year term with such a large price tag (and acquisition cost) would make me hesitant to pull the trigger. Even if Gaborik goes after 2013, Nash's contract could have negative cap ramifications. That said, he is without a doubt a great offensive talent.

it just keeps flowing from 1 generation to the next. They arent led by a bunch of 3rd and 4th liners..theyve got ELITE talent, and thats how they win.
Which is why I'm advocating for trading for elite talent.

lemme just tell you how i post.

i skim, then i read something, and then i reply to it, with little to no context from previous posts so sometimes ill write a 50 page dissertation on why someone is an idiot for saying something, only to realize later they were kidding.

and why do i skim? I work on average, 12 hours a day, 7 days a week. sometimes, you gotta skim to keep up

Not to mention Hull, Hasek....and hell, didnt they even have Robitaille?
ppl act like having stars makes you some kind of garbage team...the Redwings are built on the backs of superstars. They just know how to cultivate a winning tradition and get those stars to play within the scope of the team concept.

Very true, yet that example you gave occurred (predominantly) in an un-capped league, and most of those stars were drafted by Detroit as opposed to trading for them in the midst of their prime.

IF it works cap-wise and IF the new CBA doesn't hose us after we've committed almost 8M of cap space to one player when we already have some hefty contracts on the billet and IF Nash can produce more here with better linemates and IF Kreider doesn't end up being Nash on an ELC. That's an awful lot of ifs, and I'm sure I could find others.

I get what you're saying as well, and maybe part of it is being once bitten twice shy on my part after watching the Rangers for almost 40 years, trying to throw money at the problem in the pre cap days, the hangover in the years after '94 watching Amonte, Weight, Zubov etc. having great careers on other teams, maybe I'm being overly cautious at this point. Both arguments are certainly valid.

Agreed. But regardless of if we get Nash or not, we are set up great for the next couple of years because of great drafting. Now, finally we have DEPTH and it's time to use that depth to bring home the cup.

I don't see how the Kings blowing a 3-0 lead means that Nash is the solution. Them still being last in scoring is a different story.

What's the chances Carter's dealt and how much would he cost? I think he would be a great pickup for this team and would thrive playing on a wing with Richie. You get the guy that can bury pucks and at a much cheaper cap hit.

Same. This team needs offense bad and I can't deny his talent. It's just the cap hit that bothers me a ton. If it was $6.5-$7, I'd be a lot more willing to make a trade.

If it was a 6.5/7 mil deal he had, he'd be worth every penny of the Staal+Dubi deals.

Certainly.

I think now, more than ever, is when Lombardi makes his big move--- his job is on the line. Helene Elliot had an article about it a day or so ago, but you don't need that to know that Lombardi is (or at least should be) on the hot seat.

If Columbus values Jack Johnson highly, I think he'll end up going to LA. But with the way McKenzie talked about Johnson in a Nash, it didn't sound like Columbus was overly enthralled with the idea of Johnson.

It's between LA and NYR...like the Richards sweepstakes. SJS is also a potential destination.

I'm surprised someone hasn't done a photoshop of Nash in a Rangers uniform.
