There's also the possibility that Nash won't waive to go West, correct? Or was that debunked and I missed it in this massive thread?

Getting Nash isn't JUST about this team, though it's a definite motivating factor...its about turning this into a potential dynasty type team if you can make the right deal.

Get Nash w/o giving up stepan, MCD, MDZ, Kreider, Miller or Erixon, and you COULD be looking at this team in the not so distant future...

Nash - Richards - Callahan
AA - Stepan - Gaborik
Kreider - Miller - Hagelin
Rupp - Boyle - Prust

McDonagh - Girardi
Staal - Erixon
MDZ - Stralman

There's certainly a possibility--- but with the way it's been talked about, I doubt it. Elliotte Friedman said that the idea of a "list" is a misnomer and that he'll give Howson a list of suggested teams to try and get a deal with. If he can't with any of those teams, he'll explore other options and ask Nash for his approval, which I think Nash would grant provided he isn't going to a team like NYI or Edmonton--- if that were the situation.

TSN gave out a list that included us, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Toronto, and Boston.

I believe that he first he didn't want to go to LA, but apparently he approved it. We know nothing because he's not allowed to talk about it.

We've heard different rumors about Columbus' asking price, but we haven't really seen any official news from McKenzie or other reputable guys claiming the Rangers are out. This leads me to think this is going to come to Howson trying to budge Sather on one of our core guys before the deadline, but in the end, Howson wants to get rid of Nash's contract and he settles for something like:

Dubi, McIrath, Thomas/Miller, 1st, 2nd.
As much as I want Nash (even though I have my doubts about us being a Nash away, but he does give us a better chance), I honestly think the opposite. Since the lockout name 1 big name trade that we made. Zherdev isn't really a big name, McDonagh was a good prospect but not a big name.

I read somewhere on twiiter from a reliable source that Nash was to provide a list of 5 teams he would accept a trade to.

But how often do star players really get dealt? Maybe once per year?

Hossa, Kovalchuk, Heatley. It really doesn't happen that often and it wouldn't surprise me that the Rangers haven't done it.

We never had the assets. But the last time we made a big splash at the deadline was *GASP* 1994

Here's some trade deadline info if you're interested:

Well didn't we hear rumors about those guys and we never got any of them. Granted you're right, due to the cap there are fewer such players dealt, so it's not as surprising that we haven't made trades like we did for Lindros and Bure, pre-lockout.

True.

Please be right though, as i'm anti-Nash.

Dude, we're already best in the east and we're a young team. I swear with the way some of you are talking it's as if we're a bubble playoff team, not the best team in the East.

We have assets now, but we don't want to trade them. I don't think Dubi is an asset, although according to their beat writer they like him. If we don't trade, MDZ, McD, or Stepan, which I'm confident we won't, they'll probably either want Staal or Kreider. I'm more open to trading them, but still don't want to. I don't know about the team.

Just look in that highlight video how many of those goals are Rick Nash DOING IT ALL BY HIMSELF.

Have someone feeding him the puck is an incredible thought.

Can you look at the last 3 Penguins games we've played (even the one we won 3-1) and say with a straight face that we're better than that team? Even without Crosby, the talent on that team is incomparable to the talent on this team. They just had horrible luck with injuries. I don't know why so many people keep saying we're the best in the east. Being the best in the east and winning the cup are 2 different things. Shot blocking, good defense, and good goaltending is pretty much what you'll get from every team during the playoffs.

it's called a "highlight" reel for a reason

He's only on pace to pot 26 goals this year...

It's not taking away from the future. It's taking assets away from the future. We have the depth to do it. We also have the cap space to do it.

For the right price, (which doesn't involve Kreider or Erixon as prospects), I trade for Nash.

Take it back one more game and we beat Boston convincingly

Just don't trade Kreider, MDZ, McD, Girardi, Staal, Stepan, Callahan, Hagelin, Richards, Gaborik, and obviously Lundqvist. I think I could live with anyone else going.
