How's Rene Bourque doing?

Hello Habs fans!

Flames fan here. I know you guys have been in a little turmoil in the past few games, but I was wondering how Bourque has done for you? I couldn't find a thread about him/the trade, but I've been wondering if he's been producing/hitting/putting effort into his game while he's been wearing a Canadiens jersey.

What line combinations has he been playing on? How many ES minutes? Does he get PP/PK time?

I'm not here to talk about Cammalleri - if we could keep it to Bourque, I'd really appreciate that... oftentimes it's too easy to get into a slag fest and that's not what I'm looking for.

Any insight would be appreciated!

I'm happy with his play, and I'm fine with having him around for a few years. He adds size, lands a big check once in a while (not as often as I would like him to though), but clearly shows a lack of talent to be a consistent offensive threat, can play in the dirty areas but too often stays in the perimeter...

He plays on the PP and PK though not in the first wave of either. I know that some fans will start *****ing about him soon enough à la Kostitsyn, but if you take him for what he is, offensive depth, he fills the role wonderfully.

EDIT - I figured I'd add this for those who put more weight into stats: I was expecting him to be at .5ppg or so, so production wise, he's been disappointing so far. I haven't looked it up, but I think he averages 15-16 mins per game. He's been tossed around the line-up but has played with Plekanec and Darche mostly.

I see upside in having him around next year. He'd be a great piece in a deep forward line up.

Desharnais
Gionta
Cole
Pacioretty
Plekanec
Bourque
Kostitsyn
Eller

In the top 8

with rookies/potential reclamations in:

Gomez
Palushaj
Leblanc
Geoffrion

I think it's a deep line up. I think he wouldn't have a lot of pressure to perform and can be a decent player with us. 20G 20A and i'm happy really if that's in a top 9 role.

Not a big fan of his play with the team but for 3mil/year it's not like he's a liability. Randomly has moments where he seems amazing. Throws big hits though here and there.

Rest of the team hasn't exactly been sharp all year either. I'm more than willing to give him a chance and scrap this year.

This. As long as he doesn't hurt the team defensively, he's fine. Wish he'd show more of a mean streak, though.

I'd really like us to find a better winger to play with Plekanec, at the cost of possibly not re-signing Kostitsyn. But yes, I agree that 20-20 would be great. Hell, if he puts up 20 goals, I don't even care about the assists.

Also, no spot for White in your line-up?
(I guess it's not really a line-up)

Wouldn't dare to disagree. But it sucks, has so much tools to be a great player, just doesn't want to.

Alongside Plekanec and Darche, he has been providing this team with a solid shut down line. Plus, in a matter of weeks, I saw him drive the net more often than Cammalleri during his entire tenure with us!

Love the guy, and don't want to sound too negative, but their line were on the ice for all 3 goals last game.

He is pretty much what I expect for a 3 million dollar player. Wish he'd show up more though.

It was their worst effort but during all the previous games, they were solid imo.

With all his shortcomings, I still prefer Bourque to Cammy.

He's on the pk. He throws hits. He has a deadly shot. Unfortunately for him and us a few chances for him has ended up in him missing the net. Otherwise, I'd say he'd have closer to 5-6 goals with us.

He's a physical guy who can fight well. ( as we saw against Hendricks), so if the game turns nasty I'm hoping he'll be able to step up and respond in some capacity.

Like others said, at 3.3 (i think that's his caphit) it's not a huge concern if he goes cold. I think here he's secondary scoring and in Calgary seemed to be primary.

Two of his goals are him driving the net, which is what the habs have been lacking.

Also, it seems if the team is on, he's on.

He's the Native American Andrei Kostitsyn.

He has come as advertised: inconsistent, bring some kind of physical game, can play 2nd/3rd line. In the end he fits well with what we have been missing in the past years, so I'm quite satisfied with his presence. Yes, his contract is long, but we need guys like him and his cap is easily manageable, so overall, it's been positive.

I said top 9. White, moen, engqvist/gaustad/palhsson or whatever will be 4th line.

I would not be opposed to trading quantity for quality, I just don't believe the ones we're willing to get rid of would provide the return we're looking for.

I'd easily drop Kostitsyn for a Parise or Rick Nash type of player. Just very unlikely on both counts for different reasons.

Especially when you factor in the cap hit and the physical play.

Add that second rounder and Holland and I feel warmy and fuzzy all over!

Really wish it was Peter Holland and not Patrick Holland though.

I remember when we got him, I saw we acquired P. Holland. I was like ****ing awesome! Then, I found out the P was patrick, then I was like who?

I'm happy with his play,
he is fast sometime and a ghost other times

he dont get alot of PP.
He play in a shutdown line with Darche and Plekanec.

I really hope he reach 20 goals this season (16)

Don't worry. Holland is our next Tom Pyatt.
