We really get no information from the Pens regarding this.
Wasn't the big news story a few weeks ago that he was receiving neck treatment and Crosby himself said something along the lines that "it's better than just waiting and hoping to feel better"? Well that looks like some more BS because it seems like we're still just waiting and hoping the symptoms go away. Is he still receiving treatment for the neck? How would we know...we get lame answers like "his status hasn’t changed".
My opinion is that nothing has changed in 14 months, because other than those 8 games he's played, he’s still where he was when they first diagnosed him with an upper body injury in January 2011.
After 14 months and a tour around the country seeing the worlds best doctors, he's still waiting and hoping to wake up feeling better one day.
Unfortunately for our Cup chances, it may take another season for Sid and the team to realize that he may have to deal with headaches off and on if he wants to come back and stay back.
Why does the team feel the need to produce asinine statements that's their is no change in his status. Tells us when it changes not every time there is a practice.
..Probably because the reporters ask him about his status?
"Sidney Crosby skated with the team. Not a change in status for him, a chance to get on the ice with some more players. He was out there with our team for the entire practice, although he did not participate in the contact drills that we did have. We'll see how he progresses and where's at in terms of getting on the ice. Sometimes it dictates on if it's an optional or how many people will be out there."

Because there was that twitter this morning?
Because of the interview he gave 4 days ago?
The Pens were just keeping it real, nothing wrong with that.
I'm going on a limb and saying Crosby's done untill October. He's still suffering symptoms 1 month and a half untill the playoffs. Sure the doctors said he can practise, but he's STILL having symptoms. IMO seeya in October Crosby. This is last year all over again.
Also Sullivan. He's been pretty much poop for most of the season but i'm liking the way he is starting to gel with Staal. If Sullivan saved his best for the end of the season and playoffs he actually could be a difference maker for this team. The speed is still there and he has the creativity to make plays. He could become what we thought Kennedy was supposed to be this season.
I guess I'm in the small minority that thinks we still have a cup chance without him. That's why we have the 2 best players on earth. In case 1 breaks down.

I agree but Shero is kind of stuck because Crosby has not been ruled out 100%. If he was, Shero would know for certain he can use that cap space to bring in more pieces. Being stuck in limbo is what makes this situation so frustrating. I almost feel like the only reason they don't just come out and shut him down is because Sid himself wants to keep trying, no matter how futile.
Is it possible there could be some concern that he would feel isolated or depressed if the docs and the team shut him down for the season? I believe depression was a big factor for Savard in his, ultimately failed, rehab. The fans and media know so little about this situation, could take a long time for all the details to come out.

I would say the majority of the board thinks we have a chance without him. It's insane to think otherwise.
I think the fact that he is practicing 6 weeks until the playoffs and not shut down is a glimmer of hope. If they were certain he wasn't going to be cleared for the playoffs, the docs would most certainly sit him until October in my opinion.

Last season begs to differ. Crosby was still practising untill the bitter end. IMO same thing will happen, he will keep practising but will still be having "symptoms". Not like they are just going to magically go away, he says they are better but they are still there lingering. Aslong as he has a chance, and the way he is, he will NEVER give up, even if there was 0.01% chance. But...Shero should still use some of that cap hit of his to give Staal a winger to play with.
I'm a lot more optimistic than most of you for some reason. I can't imagine he'd still be involved with the team if he was so far away from a return - you'd think it would be too big a distraction for everyone.
Does anyone remember a year or two ago, going into the season when Crosby said he thought about playing some wing in certain situations? It had me thinking that even if Sid does wake up one day this year and can play again, instead of acquiring another piece for the cup (which btw I think we can win either way) but, by having Sid play in a less strenuous position like a wing and let Staal do the heavy lifting on a line, would it be to any benefit?
I know when he comes back he wants to come back at 100% but still, why come back and try to carry the load when you already have two centers having statement seasons. Not to mention what 11 and 71 did on that cup run. JTOL
As much as I'd be ecstatic if Sid could come back this season, I think he should bag it right now and let Shero use some of his cap hit at the deadline.
I want to go back to the cup Finals as badly as anyone, but I'm concerned that a third hit on Sid in a heated playoff series might do him in for good. In fact, if I'm the opposing team I'm hitting him until he wilts.
Not that I'm a doctor by any means, but seven more months of healing would seem prudent, especially when he's only going to be 25 at the start of next season.
The choice might be, have him for this year's playoffs and risk him getting Lindrosed, or maybe having him until he's 40.
As for Sid, this may be a case of waiting it out to maximize his playoff time. They aren't gonna risk him playing a slew of regular season games and going out again before the playoffs.
You insert him in with 4 or 5 games left and get him ready to roll the post season or start him in the actual playoffs after ramping up his practices.
The above is just a theory but it makes sense to me. It's obvious the guy has the intention of coming back this season and it's really just a matter of when unless he has a setback.
I don't know how he could have symptoms this long and come back and be fine. If he comes back this season the symptoms will probably return after a few hits. They should just shut him down.
