People here are probably going to freak if it's true because of the irrational worship of first round picks. But 30th overall isn't all that exciting imo. I'd rather have Downie, even if he is probably worth about the same.
You know what, I was thinking the same thing. DET's pick is going to be very high this year. Granted, Pracey works wonders drafting, but still- a warm body coming back is nice.
Looks like Avs management saw exactly the same thing that I saw in Quincey, including his upcoming contract demands/requirements and did the sensible thing and got something for him.
By the looks of the comments from Bolts fans, they are NOT thrilled with this at all. If it's true and he's really hard to play against and can score, I think we'll be happy with him.
He's having only an 'ok' season so far 12G 18A 28PTS and is an RFA but was making only $1.8M per year.
I give full props to Avs management for recognizing the issue and making sure we're not getting ourselves in a bad spot with Quincey.
Downie has 460K remaining and Quincey has 777K remaining we might be able to absorb the difference in salaries because of the amount we banked from having Elliot Barrie Malone and others up on the roster at various times
At first, I was slightly disappointed because I thought I read Downie was a UFA, but he's gonna be an RFA. I don't think the value is that far off here really, and depending on what his salary demands are, this could be a good trade. He brings an all around element of toughness and scoring to the top lines that other guys like Gali and Winnik just couldn't quite pull off to warrant playing above a bottom six role.
Also had a strong feeling it was Quincey who they were offering around for JVR and others (as part of a package probably) but his play the last few games probably really killed his value. Too bad.
Good luck to Quince in TB, he's a good team guy, and a very solid two way D if played on a second pairing.
Edit: Really don't like that he's going to Detroit, and we have to face them with him on the team. I hope Stevie Y made this clear, and didn't pull a sneak move, because you know Colorado wouldn't be happy with him going to Detroit otherwise.
