Shocking news: Flyers are looking for a No. 1 goalie.
Quote:
The Philadelphia Flyers appear to be actively scouring the trade market for a No. 1 goaltender as the trade deadline inches closer, a source close to the situation told TFP.
Flyers GM Paul Holmgren has been concerned with the play of goalies Ilya Bryzgalov and Sergei Bobrovsky, prompting him to search for a new netminder.
According to the source, the Flyers are willing to package Bobrovsky as part of a deal that could include left wing James van Riemsdyk, depending on the goalie.
Now the Rumor of the Hour out of Philly is that they're getting Nash:

They should be more concerned with getting a goalie...
Will they never learn?
It could be balderdash. They aren't having any trouble putting the puck in the net, it's keeping it out that's difficult. Which makes me leery of this rumor.

That would be a pretty good return for CLB IMO. Add in the Philly first and they've got some solid young pieces in place. Long road ahead for Jackets fans
That leaves Vancouver with over 10 mil tied in cap with goalies who can't perform under pressure. On to nothing I'd say.
Not sure we`ve seen Schneider under perform under pressure, one could argue that he has played exceptionally well in the big games he has been given.
I`d also argue, that the players and coaching staff, regardless of the drivel they`ll sell in the media, feel much more confident with Schneider between the pipes when it counts

While I like Schneider his previous record in big games isn't great. He's lost both NCAA National Finals games he played in. He lost both Beanpots he competed in. He had decent #'s in the AHL playoffs but still has yet to prove he can get the W in a "Must Win" scenario.
I really think the kid is the real deal but it wouldn't shock me to see him struggle if handed the reigns in these playoffs.
PS getting the confidence from Nucks nation over Bobby Lou is like being voted prettiest in a Leper colony.

While I respect the NCAA games your referenced, let`s not forget that`s when he was a kid, he`d be the starter, arguably on about a dozen, if not more teams today if he weren`t a Canuck. He and Rask are, hands down, the 2 goalies who are ready, or about as ready as you can be to be a #1, some say Bernier, I say Bernier still has miles to go to get to that area.
Luongo is a great regular season goalie, I won`t for one minute let that "decision" by Vigneault to play Schneider against the Bruins as simply a case of allowing his family and friends to see him play. I will also wager, come playoff time this year, he`s the "#2" goalie who see`s the most action

All fair points. I'd also agree he would be a starter on many teams already. He's one of my favorite goalies and someone I've had the pleasure of watching since his days with BC.
As for your wager I'd be hard pressed to take that bet. If there's one other #2 that might give him a run for his money in terms of playoff games played I'd say Bobrovsky.
I'm not saying playing Schneider these playoffs would be a mistake. Just saying Canucks nation while they have reason to be really excited about a top-3 young up and coming goalie in the league need to temper their expectations for him because when the going gets tough, he has yet to show a propensity for big game heroics at any level so far.
