Those few look like bigger fools than ever. It's always been the roster assembled.
Indeed!

I'm a Mafki guy...but it's time to clean house if this doesn't get turned around...and soon. Hunter was just a terrible decision...and adding his whatever to this group of sad sacks of **** was just a recipe for this **** burger of a run to the playoffs.
This is pretty much my exact perspective.

Pluses: Green, Semin, Neuvy

Minuses: Every other ****ing thing.

For the record, I was delighted by BB's firing but dubious about Dale. Still, in the 10 or so games after the change, I was one of the posters who thought they were playing better, with some growing pains evident. Clearly that was a wrong/wishful assessment. Backstrom's injury revealed them for what they are.

A team with Perreault, Johansson, a converted Laich and Halpern for center depth. Yeah.

Don't forget a injured green , struggling Ovie and for the longest time chimera was our top goal scorer, yikes

That's all child's play compared to what we've had to deal with at center since Backstrom went down. If Backstrom is still playing we're 8-10 points ahead of where we are now. Hopefully this time one of them sacks up and destroys Bourque. Not too likely though.

Find me a team that has it half as bad. All I can think of is Minnesota without Koivu. Florida has about the same caliber of players behind Weiss as we have behind Backstrom, but Weiss is legit and puts them a tier above.

I'm not a big fan of Vermette, but if that's all he cost... GMGM WTF.

He would not have fit this team. Lot of caps writers went over that when the trade happened.

I agree.

Wall Street is corrupt as a result of government institutions meddling with them. So that actually makes it much worse for D.C.

But the main problem is that we no depth at the center position.

Ouch.............

Hunter throwing the Czechs under the bus. LOL He does realize you have to score goals too to win - not just prevent them?

OK, usually I'm not a mega-pessimist, but allow me a mega pessimist moment...

Ugh, Hunter burning his bridges with Vokoun and Hamrlik before the end of the season (when he probably will not return).

PLEASE, if we get a new coach, let him be an offensive up-tempo coach. I am really tired of watching 2-1 games that we lose. Or worse, 5-2 and 5-0. At least let me watch us losing 7-6, much more exciting.

Thanks for letting me be a pessimist for once!

I would like to say start Holtby, give the young gun a shot, plus, do we need to trade OV right now?? even though the negative guy like me wouldn't do it now? at least another year, not now please. some guys have to be let go, like......
before season started, our GM was very excited and said : all the holes have been filled!
but, but, seems like even bigger and more ......

Wasn't it the talk this past summer/off-season that Laich conferred with McPhee regarding what the team's needs were to get to the next step. Thought the Joel Ward signing was suppose to be one of those steps.

In hind sight, the best two acquisitions that GMGM had made during the summer was the trade for Brouwer, which at the time many if not most of us thought he was giving up too much for Brouwer and the signing of Halpern who came in the cheapest at 800k and seemed to be almost an after thought.

Right now I'd give the following grades to George's "fixes":
- Brouwer B+
- Halpern B
- Hamrlik D
- Vokoun C
- Ward F

Brooks has unfortunately failed to fill the shoes of Nick. Yeah he got hurt, and filling in for Nick is not a reasonable expectation but at the end of the day, if you are an experienced NHL center making 4M you should be able to help hold down the fort. I just don't know why we were hell bent on retaining him on a phat contract knowing he would only be a 3C/PKer. George likes nice guy good citizens but I question how much goodness translates onto the gridiron.

Sure he has dominated as a checking center, but think Halpern or Boyd could have filled that role for us. Yeah Brooks may be the least of our problems, but seeing him getting into a fight last night, that's not him. What is that, his first in 5 years? He is frustrated, we needed him to emergency fill a scoring line role for us and it failed. So is he relegated to being largely a checker making 4.5 for the next 5 years?

Yes. Vokoun & Ward have been the biggest disappointments amongs the adds, IMO.

I think it's time to get a new GM and let him start over at square one. I'm assuming that won't happen till off-season. Seems unlikely they'd change GMs at this point in season.

I do believe Hunter would do well coaching a rebuild squad full of young no-namers. But i think he'll go back to London. (If he has any sense!)

Hard to imagine GMGM making huge moves, buy or sell, with his own job security so tenuous. I wonder if Leonsis would even allow it. If i were Leonsis, i'd let team play out the string this year and see whether they can sneak into playoffs. And then i'd have the new GM begin the rebuild.

Is this a bad dream the past year? Seriously? From the Caps that could once score at will, with a lethal PP..now look like the 2003 Caps, full of plugs and struggling to win...geezuz.
