That's not happening, but I just think Tallon/Santos would take anything for him, at this point.
After a couple of years, I think it's pretty clear what Tallon and Santos value and Santorelli represents the exact opposite.
Santo was given his contract because he gave us a 20-goal season last year, but he's simply out of place on this team.
He's really one-dimensional and now that he's no longer on the top-6, he's really become rather useless.
Dineen doesn't even trust him and quite honestly, I rarely ever even notice he's on the ice when he's on.
He's currently a checking line player who:
-has a 1.6 mill cap hit and is still signed for next year
-is undersized (Tallon/Santos value size)
-is a center who's winning less than 45% of his faceoffs (we signed Goc because of this, signed Madden because of this, traded for Smithson because of this...we're trying to become a puck possession team and faceoffs are valuable).
-can't PK
In other words, he's become useless.
I don't like Kopecky and I think he's really overpaid, but at least he does some things well.
I think Jovo sucks but he provides experience and leadership.
Everyone has to bring something at least.
Regarding waiving or trading a guy like Sturm or whatever, I disagree. Sturm at least PK's and I bet Tallon/Santos would like to have him back with Smithson now on our top PK unit.
If it's a choice between Sturm/Santo, Sturm wins. He fills a role and coach trusts him more.
One thing Santorelli does well is shootouts. Dineen doesn't even use him in shootouts and we just picked someone up (Wolski) mainly for his skills in the shootout because we've sucked so much at them. That's how far in the doghouse Santorelli is.
I would be shocked if he's not traded tomorrow. Not for anything big, but just to dump his salary.
