What if the Sharks somehow missed the playoffs?

I know it's unlikely and all but what would happen then? firesale in the offseason? Tmac getting fired? DW getting fired?

I don't know, I'm getting nervous.

If someone wants to bet on this happening, I'll gladly take their money.

Then i'd be happy and less stressed out as well as having to see another round 1 or round 2 exit.

They wouldn't firesale but I could see DW trying to change some key pieces on the team.

I was just thinking about this in the shower this morning. Honestly, we have the pieces. If it were to happen, I don't see DW or Todd getting fired. The only way I see Todd getting fired is if its determined that he's "lost the room." But it seems like its not the case.

I'm nervous too, but this team seems to rise when its back is to the wall. Last night, we made a run for it. If it weren't for Clowe, we could have made the comeback. McGinn's goal counts, or a post shot goes in, its a different game. We're not at the point that the Capitals have reached yet, so that makes me somewhat relieved. Hopefully the boys get riled up about playing against their former coaching staff on Thursday.

This is useless speculation right now because we won't know until it happens exactly what transpires. If the Sharks miss the playoffs there has to be major issues between now and then, and we don't know what those would be. If it's injuries to key players that means something totally different from if the team is healthy and just stinks it up from now to the end of the season.

We wouldn't blow it up, we'd make a couple of minor trades, and go back at it again next year.

IF we missed the playoffs, this is what I expect would happen:

1) Todd McLellan would be fired immediately, I have no doubt (and he'd deserve it).

2) Clowe and Murray would be moved for picks/prospects in 2012 draft

3) DW might be so pissed he'd ask one of Marleau/Thornton to waive and move them for a big package including a very high pick if possible.

4) Pavelski or Boyle would be made captain.

Basically, he'd get younger, faster, and do a mini-rebuild on the fly.

It would be the biggest letdown season in Sharks history, definitely moreso than in 02-03.

We miss the playoffs and one of either TMac or DW go. Maybe even both. Past performances really dont mean that much in professional sports. Its a 'what have you done for me lately' world.

lets not jump off the bridge yet. we are 6th in the west in points with games in hand on everyone.

I think we win the division. I have a feeling that the Yotes will actually start cooling off sometime soon. LA on the other hand just needs to get their offense going (which is due) and they could be staunch competition for the division.

So missing the playoffs would be the best thing that could happen ... Fail for Nail!

LA is the reason I think not winning the division is a genuine possibility. They have the goaltending and defense.. once the goals start coming, it's going to get ugly. Not sure why they've struggled so much offensively though, so I can't really say if it's something they'll figure out in the stretch.

Unlikely? Right now I give us a 50/50 chance of making the playoffs. I'm holding off until the last possible second to turn in my invoice for playoff tickets.

Mathematically it is possible if we lose every game from now until the end of the season. Let's not make that our goal.
