Tough one. Probably Hagelin. I simply think Kreider's upside makes him worth hanging onto more. And I love Hagelin.

i dont think its that tough. Kreider is bigger, stronger, faster, has a better shot. He's going to be a better player than Hagelin. ideally, youd have em on the same line. with a defensively responsible center...let them fly out of the zone and push the D back.

Everyone is going to say they'd hang onto Kreider - I'd lean that way too, but its a tougher question than at first glance.

Hagelin has one of the highest hockey IQ's on the team - he is extraordinarily well-schooled, a smart player to go along with speed. Thats as important as any physical tools.

Skill set wise, I'd probably say Kreider is better, but I love Hagelin's hockey smarts, mind you I haven't seen Kreider play all that often, so I can't comment on his hockey IQ. I see Hagelin playing against NHL players and he's impressed me, with his positioning and decision making, and of course using that incredible speed of his.

hes very smart, no doubts at all there. with that said, i dont think Kreider is a dumb hockey player. he's very smart about getting into the right areas as well. not as good defensively, but an average to above average hockey iq fo sho.

Kreider, seeing as how he'll probably force himself to Boston anyway, Erixon style.

McD and Stepan will both be RFA's in 2013. Callahan, Lundqvist and Girardi are signed until summer 2015 (All UFA's). Erixon would be on an ELC until summer 2015. Staal is sign until summer 2016. Kreider and McI will be on ELC's until summer 2015 as well.

Gaborik is off the books in the summer of 2015 (That's $7.5 million). Lundqvist shouldn't see much of a raise from where he is now, as he is one of the highest paid netminders in the league today. Callahan could get a couple more million. Girardi could possibly be userped by McI, Erixon, etc and COULD be expendable then. Or he could be the backbone of the Rangers D-core, where he would see a two to three million dollar raise. Boyle ($1.7 million) and Rupp ($1.4 million) also come off the books in 2015.

I really see the main problem happening in the summer of 2013, but who knows what the cap will look like then. Hell the Rangers could potentially have two Stanley Cups under their belts by then. Who knows, but I'd be extremely happy if the Rangers won those two cups haha, as would everyone here. Nash could help this team do that if they keep playing up to their current abilities and with the King in net.
Actually, Gabby comes off the books in 2014

This is his 3rd season, 2012-13 is his 4th, 2013-14 is his 5th and final season on this contract.

Either way, I believe he gets dealt at the 2013 draft

I take Hagelin, partly because so many got him penciled for the first line next season, even though he's not even signed here and we haven't got a clue weather he's gonna be able to take the step to play with the big guys. But most beacause Hagelin is a real mature player, with a very high lowest level and is producing on every line he has been on. I would stick with him over the unproven.

I havent watched enough of Kreider so Ill reserve judgment until he can show his hockey smarts are on par with NHL'ers. Ive seen it with Hagelin, so I feel I can make a better judgment.

I know thats not a popular stance with some of the prospect "experts" on this board...but I dont have enough time to watch the Rangers every night AND watch prospects with any regularity.

JT Miller is also signed while Kreider isnt id deal Kreider before Miller. Miller can step in and play in the AHL towards the end of the year and maybe play with the Rangers next season. he didnt look to out of place during the preseason...

Brassard would not do well on a Torts team.

Brassard is very Wolski like in his approach to the game

I wish all questions in life were this easy.

Kreider is obviously the one you want to hold on to.

And this is based on what?

He can't do that until August 2013.

He's taken classes so that he can graduate early to do what exactly? Sit around for a year+ just so he can "force" a trade to Boston?

Because he's in the NCAA not a teen league in Canada. NCAA eligibility is gone once a Pro contract is signed.

Kreider >>>>> every other prospect we have (save Erixon) And its not close.

Im high on Miller. Called the Miller pick before the draft. But he's not on Kreider's level.

This Boston **** is ****ing annoying. Kreider isn't ditching his drafting team because he's from the Boston area.

He can go to grad school and play at BC for another year. Will that happen? Doubt it.

If it does, you can kiss him goodbye.

Exactly. He's graduating this year. His plan is to stay in college for another year, with no classes, and play college hockey twice a week, so that he can sign with the Broons? What the hell kind of plan is that?

how about this

Dubinsky, Kreider, Thomas and 1st round pick

for

Nash and Methot

Methot would add some grit on the defense...solid bottom pair dman

I very reluctantly agree and Hagelin has quickly become one of my favorite players.

If Kreider was not as fast as he is, I might say keep Hagelin. I say this because I have now witnessed first hand how valuable having even 1 player with that type of speed is to a team. Hags is able to wreck havoc on opposing teams because of his speed on the forecheck. I do believe his ceiling is a 15-20 goal guy and 40-45 point guy which is nothing to shrug at but having Nash and Kreider would be much better.
