Jason Demers to NYI

He seems to have some disappointing stats, and guys like Braun and Petrecki are knocking on the door. Is Demers available and what would it take to bring him to Long Island? It can probably wait until the offseason/draft, doesn't have to be at the trade deadline.

They are, but how many top-4 minutes is he going to get with Boyle and Burns on the right side? That's not easy to beat.

It would take a lot to get Demers. I'm still high on the kid. He's had a tough year with injuries, so I could see how he might be available for the right price (probably another young forward with upside). But the forward has to be a roster player that can play now.

If he could be had great...I just feel we need size and a defensive dman.....I thought Demers was more of an offensive dman...

Really like Demers. Great speed, solid offensive instincts, and generally improving in his own end. He is also the only d in the system, that can, to some degree, replace Boyle upon his retirement. Braun, burns, and Doherty are all right handed point shots, but none are likely PPQBs.

That said, I do prefer braun and we desperately need a young top 6 forward. Is grabner or okposo available. Didn't think so. thus there likely is not a fit for San Jose's needs.

Keep in mind, he played top four minutes on a conference finalist, and losing was devastating in the vancouver series. Babcock noted he was a critical loss.

No, thanks. Do you have a different forward to offer?

I'm not a fan of his, but Bailey has been showing some signs of offense. He just has linemates that aren't going to score. I think if he gets a change of scenery he's going to be fine.

Not gonna trade Demers for a UFA.

Really, Okposo or Grabner are the players we'd be interested, especially after Nielsen is off the table.

Last thing San Jose needs is a pure center. At least it looks like he was pretty exclusively a center the last two years?

He hasn't this year, but he's played LW before. He's pretty solid there, actually. Kind of a big reason that him getting traded wouldn't be so bad, since we have ridiculous center depth as far as prospects go.

Ideally the Sharks D is gonna look something like this

Vlasic-Burns
Murray-Boyle
Demers-Braun

(possibly replace Murray with Stuart if we sign him and trade Murray in the offseason)
