Last year the Sharks played Ben Eager which single handidly cost them a game in the WCF.

I don't think Avery will have the same influence but I don't get why they would risk it.

Just heard on Connected (Scott Morrison from Sportsnet) that the Flames are interested in Avery as well, as long as he's on waivers.

Not sure if this belongs in this thread or if it needs a new one.

LOL Sharks are probably the most tight lipped franchise I've ever seen, I don't think this is legit. Plus, Doug Wilson is all about character (with exception to Claude Lemieux).

The Flames are at their 50 contract limit, so it would have to be a trade.

I wouldn't mind Avery on the Flames really, we're running out of bodies.

Didn't know that.

Hope the Flames stay away from him

That's perfect. If everyone runs around trying to kill him just hand him an ice pack, tell him "sorry bro but you're bait" and then let everyone on the other team pound/wreck him while ignoring the Sharks as they score goals, winning the game.

Boyle played for Tampa in the Eastern Conference, so I would bet it's him. Plus, he's a bigger hard-ass than Jumbo. Makes sense, right?

Ben Eager also has a couple screws lose and sometimes sees blood, screams "**** IT. IM GONNA DSKLGSLDHGKJLDSHGKJLDHFDS" and loses his mind and runs around frothing at the mouth trying to kill as many players as possible to please the old gods or some **** like that. Avery's just a huge *******/dick.

I'm okay with this. At worst, he's AHL depth!

Future Considerations for Avery or you can have someone useless in the AHL.

What kind of ramifications would this have on Dallas since they were on the hook for $4 million this season prior to him being waived by NY?
well when you put it that way maybe it is worth picking him up...much rather teams are focused on killing Avery than stopping the sharks shirking offensive players..

Avery and Clowe on the same team

I bet Brian Burke would start showing up to pretend he is scouting the Sharks every game. Has to be Thornton, Boyle has actually won a cup, he would know better than to suggest this is the missing piece.

This. Kind of move that makes sense for the sharks. Worst case scenario, they just get depth, and with basically no cap issues.

As much as I would love for the Rangers to get something/anything (not the Todd Rundgren album) for Avery, I don't see this happening. Avery hasn't played for nor practiced with the Whale for a month. Just the amount of time it would take to get him into game shape would be detrimental to San Jose. Then there's the issue of who puts him through re-entry - do the Rangers risk getting nothing and being on the hook for part of his salary if he is claimed? Do the Sharks risk not only get nothing, but parting with whatever they send to NY and being on the hook for part of his salary if they are the ones to bring him through re-entry, and he gets claimed by another team? Unless I'm missing something about players who have to go through re-entry after being traded - which I certainly might be - I'm no expert on these things, I can't see either team doing this.

The Officials LOVE to give Avery penalties for things he might have done and other times CERTAINLY didnt even come CLOSE to doing.

So if you want your team shorthanded a bunch of times a night because the linesmen have an agenda, then by all means take Avery off your hands.

I think it is best to leave sleeping dogs lie.
