How about these 2 former lovebirds not taking their breakup so well:

Just heard on NHL on the Fly that Mike Richards has one goal since Christmas and meanwhile Jeff Carter is sulking down in Columbus praying to be traded.

Richards 30 points in 52 games

Carter 25 points in 29 games

And also, how much has Vokoun cost himself for this year's free agency?

I wonder if Holmgren knew how attached to either the team/city/each other those two were prior to trading them. Courtier in particular has been very impressive. Carter is 25p, 39g.

That team needs blown up - personnel wise their offense is worse than in previous years and their defensive additions were meh. Semin needs to go. They need a 2nd line center, who knows if Kuznetov is up for it but Johansson currently is not. They need to mandate that Ovechkin commits himself to be an undisputed top 3 player again (in whatever system their coach uses) or he might need to go too. Can't have that much cap space tied up in a winger and not get elite production, and you can't keep getting uninspired play from your captain.

Ovechkin has got to be some kind of basket case behind closed doors.

I mean, he's too busy making stupid rap videos and doesn't seem to give a damn about what happens one the ice. Kolzig was 100% correct.

That being said, he absolutely should not be traded. You dismantle the entire organization top to bottom before you move him. You build around an Alex Ovechkin, you don't trade him.

Well they've done that already. I'm not saying he needs traded now but if he continues to look like a passenger on many nights (talking over the next few seasons here), you can't afford to build around him.

Yeah, I hear ya. I just don't think you let it get to that point. Hell, I wouldn't have let it get to this point.

Serious changes need to be made. Get rid of Semin, get rid of Green. Not sure about Backstrom, because he's shown he can do it all before.

Ovechkin seems like a serious prima donna. He had too much fun and things went well for him too early, and now he thinks it's all fun and games and easy. He's not willing to work, or buy into a system that predicates winning. At the same time, he's an absolute generational talent in the fact that he has the ability to put up astronomical numbers and will his team to victory whenever the mood strikes him.

Crazy to think they seem to have bigger problems now than they had this time last year. I mean unless they can get rid of the Hamrlik and Ward contracts and get Backstrom healthy again of course.

I've been saying this for a while now. Ovechkin is a spoiled child, plain and simple. The Caps management has done zero to hold him accountable for anything, and now it's catching up.

Forget this season all together, it's over for OV and the Caps. Next season, he'll either come back and tear it up after pushing himself over the edge in the off-season, or he will completely bomb again. I hope for the former, for the sake of the league.

they definitely need to spend Semin's 6.7M elsewhere. I was more wondering who is going to sign him as a UFA. I could see the Rags picking him up.

I'm of the same thought as McGuirk. Besides... even if trading Ovechkin is the right move, does management have the testicular fortitude to do it? I don't think Leonsis would ever let it happen.

LA is getting beaten down by the Avs right now.

Would be really surprised if the Kings don't make a move by the weekend. They have no choice or they can kiss the playoffs goodbye

Mike Milbury just said he wouldn't trade Ovechkin.

So I guess the correct move would be to trade him.

I was just thinking the same thing. The Caps need to be sellers this deadline and get rid of some of the dead weight if they can (Green, Semin) and start thinking about next year and trying to get the Great Ape focused.

Also, not sure if this was already discussed but what is up with that Ruutu contract? Makes Neal's deal look even better. In Ray we trust.

Didn't Ovechkin fake an injury once after he kneed another player? I think it was right in the midst of his suspension season. He committed a blatant knee on knee hit on Tim Gleason, and then when he realized he could be in trouble he grabbed his knee and acted hurt as well. He ended up not missing a game or being injured of course.

Now the team is terrible, he gets frustrated and leaves the ice. First we find out its an "Equipment problem" from his coach. Then hes seen limping leaving the game. Now hes not practicing or playing? Its a little weird if you ask me. I wouldn't be surprised if hes throwing a tantrum and refusing to play. Or something happened and hes exaggerating it just to have an excuse later when the team misses the playoffs. Never really know with that guy.
