Now that Eklund has (sort of) spilled the beans, I'll tell you who yesterday's mystery center was: Columbus' Jeff Carter.
My information is, Columbus GM Scott Howson approached the Hawks as recently as yesterday, asking what they would offer for Carter. I have also heard for weeks now that Howson and Stan Bowman have been engaged on Rick Nash, then Derek Brassard, and now Carter.
I will also tell you that the offer I was told the Hawk put together for Nash very possibly consisted of players Howson asked for. And that could be why, although Howson has been shopping Carter to other clubs, he came to the Hawks about Carter.
Bowman would be a moron for taking on Carter's contract. He already gave Brian Campbell away for nothing, why would he give up assets to for a guy with a worse contract and less value to a team?
Now this I believe would be a good move for Chicago. Their missing piece is a good 2nd line center. The question is: what main piece do they give up for him? They're obviously not going to give Toews or Kane and I doubt they part with Hossa or Sharp. I also don't see them parting with Keith, Seabrook or Leddy. Perhaps they'd offer Hjalmarsson in a package. He's a very solid, shot blocking defensive defenseman, something Columbus could use to build their D core.
Terrible choice for a second line center for the Hawks. Second line wingers are usually Hossa and Sharp who are both shooters. They need a playmaker for their center, not a third shooter.
Linking to hockeybuzz instantly kills this "rumor." The Hawks have been actively looking to improve their D and possibly their goaltending. Offense is the least of their concerns.
YES please.. To all the fellow Hawk fans that don't want him.. i hope we get him and revise this thread next season when he has the most goals on the team. Carter is one of the best natural goal scorers in the league... playing along side our players, he would return to 40goals

They could play Kane with Carter and Hossa with Toews (which has always been a very effective combination). Sharp can go on either line.
I'd rather trade for Ribeiro and sign him to a reasonable extension than take on 10 years of Carter.
Completely disagree, Carter >>> Ribiero. The Carter we seen in Philly is the real Carter, not this depressed under performing player in Columbus. Carter at 5.2 a year is an absolute steal. Would you pay 5.2 mil a year for 10 years on a 26 year old 40 goal scorer? Answer should be yes. The only thing that worries me is that he's not going to come cheap, what would we have to give up?
EDIT: And what do you think Ribeiro would sign for? 4.5? not very far off

WAY tooo top heavy on an already top heavy team....carter who gets injured constantly is on wayy to long of a contract for the hawks to go in on when they have 3-4 2nd line center prospects coming along right now.

Admittedly so.. But with all of those players alone, even if you had fodder fill in you're a contender... Our top 6 would hands down be the best in the league.
