He'll get traded. Howson is just not going to get the sun and the stars like he had hoped. Nash is a very good player, but I wouldn't put him in the category of Malkin, Crosby, Stamkos, Sedins etc. They really need to trade him. I hate to see a great player waste away their career on a positively inept organization. He's done a lot for Columbus, they just need to swallow their pride and let him go. They will get a good return for him of young players.

What do you guys think of Olli Jokinan as a #2 or 3 center for next year if we could sign him to a reasonable deal. I think it could be a potential homerun signing if he landed in STL. Just my gut but I think he could do well with our gritty fast paced forechecking style. I havent seen him play in awhile so I could be wrong but I think he would do well in out line up. Thoughts?

I don't think you could sign him to what we would call a reasonable deal

We had this conversation a week or two ago. I think the conversation points went a little like this:

Pros:
-he's a point producer, can be counted on for ~55 points
-can be had for around 4M

Cons:
-Known to be bad in the locker room
-Never been part of a successful team before

Or something like that, I can't really recall. I think he would be a pretty decent option if we can't spend the money on one of the better defencemen hitting free agency.

You forgot

Cons:
-Not terribly useful defensively

I just have to say, I find it highly amusing that Calgary fans were demanding that we trade Cole because if they lose Jaybo, they would have a huge hole on the backend. Apparently Feaster was listening and decided to start collecting defenders.

I guess we know we have a backup plan available if we need it.

I still don't get how Jaybo has seasons of 12, 15, and 15 goals in Florida, and then doesn't get more than 5 in Calgary.

They have 10 defensemen on one way contracts now....

I don't understand what Calgary is doing.

I know the Northwest Division isn't the strongest, but the quality of competition that he faced post lockout was very low in the Southeast. The Eastern Conference is much easier for a mobile defender to succeed.

JR just posted a morning skate which spells out the idea of the Blues trading a top six forward to Calgary for Bouwmeester or to Phoenix for Yandle. These are worlds different ideas. If a top six goes to Calgary it had damn well better be Giordano coming back and not Bouwmeester.

Unless somehow that top six forward is Stewart or D'Ags, I would be furious if we traded away that good of an asset for JBo. Now I'd trade any forward outside of Backes and Bergie for Yandle. It would take more than that, probably a prospect like Rattie or Schwartz, and a pick, but I'd still be down. Yandle/Pietro pairing would be one of the best in the league. Not to mention his contract is beyond reasonable. He's underpaid honestly.

Feaster might be a borderline genius. By him overpaying for Wideman, he made Jaybo's trade value increase lol.

I agree. If we are giving up decent assets, I'd rather pay a bit more and get Yandle (or Giordano) over JBo.

After the Roy trade today, and Buffalo acquiring another 2+ Million LHD in Adam Pardy...You've gotta think that Armstrong is giving Regier a call. I still think Leopold would be a good target as I doubt Ehrhoff would be available for anything less than an arm and a leg. Sekera would be worth checking into as well.

I don't want Bouwmeester for free with that flexibility-strangling contract and mediocre warm-body play, so speaking for myself there's no chance.

If you're willing to move Giordano then we have something to talk about. (But not one of our two natural centers.)

No way. Berglund fills a massive hole.

Not worth it.

If I was going to trade Berglund to Calgary it would have to be Gio

Still not worth it, due to the lack of centers (much less natural ones) the Blues have.

No offense, but Phoenix hangs up instantly. They also have too many D bodies to take Cole back in a trade.

Jokinen signed with Winnipeg, so this is moot.
