So do we think that Army has the flexibility to add someone with a $1.5 million dollar salary (it would then be pro-rated)?

If so I'd love to see him try to grab a grinder with some decent wheels, maybe for a third or something similar.

I feel defense is just too expensive this season, but we could use some help up front while waiting on some guys to return.

Could today be Stewart's last day in St.louis? I have a feeling Army is going to package him up?

I hope Stewart stays put. Armstrong has patience. Something many fans don't have.

I'm not expecting a "rock the boat" type trade. A supplemental trade for sure, but not expecting anyone big leaving. Stewart can always be traded around the time of the draft, if Armstrong does decide to move him.

I wonder if they put in a claim for Clitsome. He had a good 31 games last season, scoring 19 points, and is signed next year at 1.4 million. Doubt we do it, but Hitchcock knows him, so who knows.

Also one thing to remember, Backes' salary drops to 3.75 for next season.

Anyone think Souray is an upgrade? Just throwin his name out, not sure about him myself. He would be cheaper than Colaiacovo as well.

As much as I'd love to see a trade, I don't think it'll happen. This whole report of the sale has me scared.

For what it is worth, Kelly Chase was on 590 the Fan this morning and he said that he was told that the Blues were not allowed to take on ANY salary. I didn't catch if it the mandate was from Checketts or the NHL.

Of course...The Blues could have easily afforded to give Montreal a 2nd and conditional 4th to beat out Nashville.

Anyone disappointed when the Blues do nothing this is pure Dave Checketts. The sale news first hit the press May 10, 2010. We're coming up on two years now.

You can hold two ideas in your head at once. Idea one: Checketts salvaged the franchise from the Lauries and hired John Davidson who in turn made lots of smart hires that helped the Blues build and stabilize. Yay. Idea two: Dave's the flim-flam man who was in it to be seen by everyone as a sports owner with other peoples' money. Every public comment he's made about the sale has been rife with self-serving spin and outright lies.

That trait has cost the Blues two deadlines. Last year, because they couldn't add to the roster and sank earlier in the season (they had almost the same record on New Year's Day as this year), they were sellers, so it didn't hurt as much. This year, it will cost them. The person to blame is David Checketts and only Dave Checketts.

Exactly, and that's why it makes us fans so upset. We can deal with the occasional stinker of a game...But an "owner" lying and holding a very good team back? That's just not right. You may as well sell Colaiacovo and Crombeen for whatever you can get to cut payroll. This season especially is THE definition of frustration.

Edit: Mods, can we just officially refer to him as Dave Cheapass?

The sad part is seeing every other team going after what they need, and getting it

Kelly Chase was on 590 KFNS this morning and said any move that would be made would have to be a lateral financial move. He said the Blues will not take on an extra penny of salary in a deal.

Are people seriously disappointed that we didn't get Kostitsyn? He would not have upgraded us, he is on pace for a whopping 37 points and has 2 points in his past 14 games. I would rather us stand pat than trade for him, even if we could spend to the cap.

I don't know if the situations are completely the same, but Phoenix has been able to take on salary at the deadline in the past, why is the NHL not allowing us to do the same?

I was wondering the same thing, but I'm not sure if this was an NHL thing or a Checketts thing.

If it is indeed an NHL thing I completely agree with you. Phoenix added salary this year with Vermette.

Also when they added Stempniak, among others a few seasons ago. Just sounds fishy to me.

To clarify, I'm not upset about getting or not getting anybody. I only would want them to do a trade that makes them better that's my only criteria.

But if the Blues can't make a trade that would make them better which is possible, though not guaranteed, today then there's one and only one person to blame. Been predicting this for awhile and saying I can't wait til the guy is gone. This is why. The guy held a press conference last March and said he absolutely would be selling the whole team and would not be involved going forward. It was a lie.

The Blues have a bright future, if there's no move made they're going to still have had a great season no matter how it ends, and they'll have a bright future going forward. But it's long past time for the door to hit that guy's ass on the way out.

As pointless as it will be from a Blues perspective, does anyone have a TSN stream?

I know that you are looking for a TSN stream but here is a NHL network stream:

I see the whole Blues won't add salary thing and that would squash this but would Wideman, Hamrlik, and Knuble be able to pry Tarasenko out?

Something like those guys for Tarasenko, Colaiacovo and a roster player you'd want to get rid of like Crombeen?

Thoughts?

Because our owner didn't weasel his way into bankruptcy so an owner not approved by the Board of Governors could purchase the team on the cheap in bankruptcy. That action forced the NHL to actually take over operation of the franchise and protect it's rights to decide who owns a franchise. The NHL may be restricted from any further assistance simply because of the difference in situations between us and the Coyotes. For example we may only be getting revenue sharing and TV money in advance whereas the Yotes are actually on the NHL's dime. Now I haven't followed the 'Yotes situation in a while so maybe things have changed on that front and I could be wrong.

Tarasenko not moving for anything short of a superstar
