Is it just me, or does Smith need to be the one making the AHL trip? While we all see NHL talent, the game is going a bit too fast for him right now. He is gripping the stick too much, and I feel like he is being physically man-handled right now. I think a trip to the AHL would do him some good...
Erat - Fisher - SK
AK - Leggy - Horn
Tootoo - Spaling - Wilson
Halischuk - Gaustad - Bourque/Yip
I thought that as well, especially come playoff time...
If we had given the 1st for AK46 and the 2nd for Gaustad the feeling would be different. It's all a matter of perspective, overall with the three deals we made to bring players in I think the value was fair and we didn't give up the future. Consider me happy, the happiest i've ever been with Poile on deadline day!!!
If Suter bolts I would think we would try very hard to get Gill for a year as a stopgap.
AK.. you bet.. if he and his brother have good chemistry, we could probably get them both at a bit of a discount.
gaustad will depend on how much he will command and how well he plays for us this season.
Gaustad seems like the type of player that would test FA after a playoff run. He's the prototypical 3rd/4th line center every team wants. That said, I'm grateful to have him for atleast the rest of this season.
For an organization that drafts so many defensemen and two-way players, I find it odd we're having to use 1st and 2nd round picks to acquire just that. You'd hope that you'd be using those assets to address your inability to draft in other areas (scorers, which Kostitsyn is ok at).
Is anyone else curious how Wilson will respond to knowing that we were prepared to trade him to the worst team in the league? Sucks to be him.
It's not for sure set in stone that any of that was offered. But i'm sure it has some effect, especially on a young guy. Hopefully he's sensible to understand that this was Rick Nash we're talking about, he should feel good that he's seen as that valuable of a piece that he can be traded for a Nash.
Overall I think it'll be forgotten much sooner than later.
I'm not knocking the acquisition as much as the price. He definitely improves the team especially against the nucks, wings, blues, sharks. So don't get me wrong. I am very pleased with the deadline but the first was unexpectedly high for gaustad.
WOW, Columbus GM just threw Nash under the bus at the start of his presser but took the high road on all the tough ?'s asked. I bet Nash wished his "list" was a little longer. GM said Nash came to them requesting a trade. He did not have to do that. Going to be the longest couple of months in Nash's life.
