Boyd only cost a 4th rounder so I don't think thats too big a bust
worst that actually played was Brenden Witt, who cost us a 1st
probably the absolutely least impact was Grebeshkov, mainly because he got injured in his first or second game with us and I don't think he played again as a Pred..
But I respected Grebeshkov a lot in the limited time he was here. He played the rest of the game he was injured in after shattering his left testicle and showed no pain. He was my hero after that!
Grebs played the last two games of the Chicago series, setting up 2 goals. He was great when he played.
I'd take the 6 games of Grebeshkov over the 20 games of Witt
I didn't realize we had got 6 out of Grebs but I agree, he was still more helpful than Witt...
not sure if Vishnevsky was a near deadline acquisition but I remember that being the only time I ever knew Poile and Trotz to be publicly at odds... I think Poile even went so far as to say he apologized to VV for acquiring him after Trotz scratched him almost every game...

Poile is usually pretty damn good at drafting in the late rounds of the draft. I would take a fourth rounder any day over boyd. But yeah, there were worse trades like vishnevki, Witt, etc
Was kerelahti a deadline deal? Is that how his name is even spelt haha

oh man the Karalahti deal was so bad I have blocked it out of my memory....
not that Ronning would have been around when we finally got good but I stll hated to see him go...
Trading a first and two seconds all for rentals (hopefully not all),
Letting rads play out an entire season of under a million bucks just to play nine games and playoffs,
Weber and suter offseason decisions as well.
This is intense!!
Are we a cup favorite or cup contender at this point??

Closer to $85k for Radulov. $918,578 full season salary / 185 season days * number of days on active roster.

calling us a favorite without seeing exactly how much of an impact Rads has is premature but we are certainly legit contenders.
No one knows how good this team can be with Radulov and the other deadline additions. Could win it all. Could exit in the first round.
Just to keep things in perspective, I remember the excitement heading into the playoffs when the Preds signed Forsberg. It's hard to say this team is better than what we had the year we were knocked off by San Jose. San Jose was a terrible match-up for the Preds that year. IIRC Arnott is concussed, Radulov is suspended, Hartnell was injured. This group is probably deeper, bigger, and more physical. But I would say the 06/07 team was more talented.

That was also the only time in NHL history where the two teams who led the conference in wins met in the first round as 4/5 seeds. We went in dinged up against a team that won the same 51 games as we did ... a few one goal games later and we're upset and they're happy.

Injuries and Rads' suspension really hurt the Preds. Let's hope Josi recovers and other key players stay healthy. Wings, Blues, and potentially the Hawks will all be tough first round draws.
Next week will be a precursor to the first round. We have the Hawks Sunday, Blues on Tuesday, Wings on Friday, and the Hawks again on Saturday. We'll know how good we are after that four game stretch.
I really wish we could have sold off some of our current scratches/bottom liners for some picks/prospects. Guys like Hillen, Cube, Spals, McG, Laakso, Yip, etc. are just being wasted right now and may have been able to get us a pick, especially if packaged with each other. I know its good to have injury insurance, but this is excessive.

The guys you listed wouldn't be worth trading, save Spaling. Yip was a waiver pick up, Laakso buried on the depth chart, Grats hurt and no one needs an enforcer for the playoffs, Cube and Hillen are needs because they are vets.
I understand your point, but I feel the depth is exactly what we need.
I agree that we need depth big time in playoffs. If guys start getting hurt and we have no guys with NHL experience to replace them our playoff chances sink large times.
Also,
Spaling is a great player and is guaranteed a roster spot. Definitely do not think his name should be on that list at all.
And who knows, maybe we make some trades after playoffs with some of those guys, but keep them for playoff insurance this season

depth is what every team and GM craves at playoff time, and for the first time ever, we have it in spades...
Spaling is a key piece, not excess baggage.
nobody would have given us anything for any of the other players except maybe Cube, but I think he was hurt around the deadline anyway.
Laakso will probably be traded this summer.
Yip was on waivers when we got him, and nobody trades for a goon at the deadline...
