This is where we really miss BingoSensFan's contribution. He was great at giving us the scoop on the performance of the Baby Sens players.

Hasn't been around in a long time it seems.

Thanks for taking the time but I'm interested to know why such poor marks for Grant, DaCosta and Wiercioch. Not arguing, just curious.

D-men ratings as I see it...

D-men ratings as I see it...

I do Not do the ABC stuff instead I try to offer some insight as I see the player.....

2 Eric Gryba D 6' 4" 222 lbs

61 4 13 17 80 -10

Status RFA Age 23 Ottawa draft pick.

Big defensive D-man 2nd yr pro. Takes care of his own end pretty good. Far from the fastest skater, can be physical. Has played a ton of minutes this yr too many in fact. Fatigue of all those minutes is showing up on Eric. He can make a good pass to get the puck out of his own end. Recently he has started to get some points.

I say resign Eric @ 23 still young he needs another yr to see if he can play up top with Ottawa.....

3 Josh Godfrey D 6' 1" 210 lbs

31 2 5 7 6 -4

AHL Binghamton contract Age 24

Well @ best he is an 8th D-man @ the AHL level.

I would NOT resign Josh......

5 Mark Borowiecki D 6' 1" 198 lbs

59 5 14 19 101 1

AGE: 22 Ottawa draft pick.

1st yr pro with 21 games Calder Cup playoffs under his belt. OK I like him has a flare for the game more defensive D-man. Can join the rush up ice a bit, physical OK at making 1st pass to clear the zone. Has played a ton of minutes this yr too many in fact. Fatigue of all those minutes is showing up on Mark also. As Eric and Mark play dam near 30 min a game if not more down here this yr. In my view Mark needs 40 more games down here next yr to round out his game a bit more then off to Ottawa he will go...

6 Craig Schira D 6' 0" 196 lbs

59 2 7 9 25 -11

STATUS: RFA. AGE: 23 signed to ELC by Ottawa as a free agent.

3rd yr pro well Craig has fallen off this yr. His 1st yr I thought he showed some promise, but the last 2 yrs no. As Craig stats have fallen each yr. He is a #6 D-man at the AHL level. I would NOT resign him. Time to bring in more D-men to develop next yr. + there would not be any room for Craig down here next yr as other D-men will come in to develop...

17 Patrick Wiercioch D 6' 4" 200 lbs

43 2 12 14 26 -13

AGE: 21 Ottawa draft pick 3yr ELC contract.

2nd yr pro Patrick has had a tough yr with that throat injury. An offensive
D-man. Patrick would benefit from a summer of living in the Gym up in Ottawa to get bigger and stronger. Patrick needs to work on the defensive part of being a D-man. IF he does NOT do as JOB did 2 summers ago ,live in the Gym all summer & get stronger he will never be able to move up. It is up to Patrick to work his rear off this summer to add strenght + learn to play defence.... If not they might as well make him a forward or trade him.

18 Dan Henningson D 6' 1" 190 lbs

20 1 5 6 4 -1

Age 28 AHL Binghamton contract.

Up from Chicago in the ECHL.

Seems to take care of his own end. Have not seen him play all that much yet. KK seems to like him as he works pretty hard. @ 28 most of his pro games have been in the ECHL.

38 Tim Conboy D 6' 2" 210 lbs

44 2 6 8 157 0

STATUS: UFA AGE: 29

Free agent signing by Ottawa. More of a defensive D-man. Has grit not the best skater. Tim has missed 18 games due to injuries this season. Some of the plays he makes I shake my head. I would not resign Tim for next season.....

Forwards report when I get the time.

Thanks Zeke--interesting as always. It fits with everything I've heard this year--the Bingo blueline is much too thin and needs a solid injection.

I really have to wonder about Wiercioch--conditioning is not a radical concept. Maybe he needs the same kick in the ass that Jim O'Brien got two years ago.

Something I've noticed is Boro has taken over the toughness role that Gryba had last year. It seems whenever there's a challenge or someone needs to stand up for a teammate, it's been Boro instead of Eric. Maybe that's an order from the coaches, idk.

He had 13 fights last year and hockeyfights.com has him at two this year. He went from 131 pim to 80 this year. Yes he more than doubled his points, but I don't the fighting drop as I don't think Gryba will make the show unless he's an enforcer

Wiercioch hasn't improved much from last season despite the harsh injury, maybe he should be given a pass due to the severity of the injury, however he needs to improve next season and not remain stagnant..just his overall game is average..

DeCosta played skilled when first sent down but he has cooled down and it seems he just plays 'adjusted' to the A level instead of 'maintaining' the N level..maybe it's a head case, I dunno but he should be excelling at this level and hasn't..

Grant, like his attitude, good size but gets bounced around too much it seems, hustles but just hasn't improved over the season like other's..

There just isn't enough skilled players to make other's shine, the whole season has been coasting w/ inconsistent games, no one steps up game after game (like Klinker did for an example)

Good writeup Zeke - my guess is that the only defencemen to return next yr will be Boro, Gryba, Weircioch & maybe Henningson. Hopefully, the addition of Blood & Wideman next yr will help improve the defence & hopefully the Murrays can sign a couple of NCAA defencemen and/or a UFA defencemen this summer. Looking forward to the forwards.

March Madness - Syracuse advances

Forwards

Petelevi, & Aragorn thank you so much for the kind words, makes an old man happy. That you value my opinion on the B-Sens players........

Yes I did forget to do the forwards happens at my age...................

Pat Cannone C 5' 10" 198 lbs

65 15 20 35 30 -5

Status RFA Age 25 College free agent signing by Ottawa.

1st yr pro @ times he plays OK other times not that good.

I think he deserves another yr, but at 25 will he improve all that much???

Mark Parrish RW 5' 11" 199 lbs

40 14 13 27 8 -12

Status UFA Age 35

Solid pro he tries, has missed 25 games due to injury this yr.

I doubt that Ottawa resigns him...

Jack Downing C 6' 3" 200 lbs

36 6 5 11 15 2

AHL Binghamton contract Age 23

Up from Elmira Jack has improved of late. Gives a pretty good effort. I say resign him to another AHL contract...

Andre Petersson RW 5' 9" 172 lbs..

51 20 18 38 16 -6

Age 21 Ottawa draft pick..

1st yr pro dam good skill set very good shot. + he works @ times he does too much with the puck. Tougher than I thought Andre would be at 172 Lbs. He gets knocked on his ass all season long Andre keeps getting up & gets back in the play. Andre needs a summer in the Gym he has to get bigger & stronger. Dam 21 was I ever that young!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Derek Grant C 6' 3" 197

49 7 14 21 8 -2

Ottawa draft pick AGE: 21

1st yr pro Derek has missed 26 games due to a shoulder injury. Derek had 14 games last yr + 7 in Calder Cup playoffs. Good size fair to good skill set, some say they should move him to center. Long pro season starting to take a toll on him, happens with 1st yr pros...

David Dziurzynski RW 6' 3" 204 lbs

61 9 12 21 69 -5

Free agent signing by Ottawa to a ELC AGE: 22

2nd yr pro OK I am a bit biased on "DD" as he is my dark horse prospect. DD is improving his all around game. He is checking much better DD is hitting not bone crunching but finishing his checks. DD is getting in front of the net. He is polishing his game now. I hope Ottawa calls him up for the playoffs as a black ace........

Corey Cowick LW 6' 3" 208 lbs

50 5 6 11 38 -6

Ottawa draft pick AGE: 23

2nd yr pro Corey is hot then cold sadly more nites cold than hot. Only way he is effective on the ice is if he busts his rear. Corey could use more speed and skill...

Stephane Da Costa C 5' 11 180 lbs

38 11 17 28 12 -15

STATUS: RFA AGE: 22

1st yr pro Ottawa free agent signing. To be honest I expected a lot more from Stephane when he came down from Ottawa. Good skill set he could use a bit more speed & strenght. Last nite against the Pens he was invisible. I guess he is worth a contract next season.....

Mike Hoffman LW 5' 11" 176 lbs

65 17 27 44 38 -18

Ottawa draft pick AGE: 22

2nd yr pro. Mike has a very good skill set, he could use an extra step of speed to help him to get open, also Mike needs to get stronger. Can be dynamic at times other times he is like Jason up top giving the puck away.

Mike Bartlett RW 6' 0" 190 lbs

49 3 4 7 18 -5

Up from the ECHL Age 27

Mike gives you what he has honest hockey player. Mike is not a scorer never has been. He tries.....

Wacey Hamilton RW 5' 11" 173 lbs.

65 4 4 8 42 -14

Free agent signing by Ottawa to a ELC AGE: 21.

1st yr pro has struggled all yr as some 1st yr pros do. JOB also struggled his 1st yr in Binghamton. Wacey has shown just a bit of improvement of late. Not real skilled @ this level Ottawa signed Wacey to replace Cody Bass. Wacey needs to get bigger and stronger and faster. For the game he plays he will have to get bigger and stronger @ the AHL level. Lets see how he does next yr...

Francis Lessard RW 6' 3" 235 lbs.

41 1 1 2 136 -3

STATUS: UFA Age 32.

The enforcer his job is to protect the young skilled prospects. Francis does that just by being on the bench. Sadly he is the end of era in this game. I remember the 6 team NHL. The NAHL down here old East Coast Hockey League, bucket of blood where you had a goon an enforcer + 2 guys who liked to fight. Now that was real hockey, not what they play today. + I have always said a good fight never hurt a hockey game. Francis will not be resigned Darren Kramer will take his spot next yr...

Corey Locke C 5' 09" 175 Lbs

38 10 31 41 22 -6

STATUS: UFA Age 27

What can you say about Corey Locke when he is on a shear joy to watch. He is just so skilled so smooth. Corey can do magic on the ice. Will he be resigned I doubt it. Would I like him back sure all down here would.....................................

Thanks again Zeke--it's always great to read your insight. I suspect that with Da Costa he's simply worn down by the schedule, but I'm with you in being surprised at how well Andre Petersson has held up to the AHL grind.

I feel bad for fans in Binghamton--if the team had stayed healthy they would have flirted with .500 (not great, but better than last), but there just isn't the depth there this year. On the positive side, a ton of talent is on the way.

You have better insight than I do Zeke, but from the outside I've felt like the lack of depth/talent on the blueline has been the biggest problem for Binghamton.

This team has no players that I would rate above a "C" except perhaps Petersson, Decosta, Lehner and Boro. They are the four with the best chance of being a regular NHL player. None of them are top 6, perhaps they can develop into good third or fourth line players though. Petersson and Decosta because of their skill and speed (they do need to get bigger) and Boro because of his ruggedness. Lehner certainly has the size and ability to be a quality goalie, and his play in Binghamton hasn't been that great, but he has done well when called up. He needs to keep his act together and he'll make it.

As I see it many of this years players are barely AHL quality, if it wasn't for the lack of prospects in the system and the fact Daugs, OB and Klinkhammer all got a shot, many of these guys would be in Elmira for the season.
