Biron's numbers have improved going to a full-time backup playing selective games while with the Rangers. That said, his game at 33 was clearly and statically better then his year at 34. Expect that decline to continue as he gets older. He does work great with his starter and is a great lockerroom guy, which is great reason's to keep a backup, however, by his game play declining, he doesn't deserve more than a year at a time. If he gets two years, it should be for significantly less then a two year deal. I'd say 2 years at around 900k-1.1m or a 1 year deal for 1.2. If I'm Marty I take the security of a two year deal at 1.1 1st year, 850k 2nd year.

God forbid that we lose Biron, do you guys think that Talbot could be ready to be a full time back up? Or would they go on the market to find another back up?

another ex devil no thanks id rather trade for a young goalie. someone like Bachman from Dallas or maybe take a chance on a player who has low value like Steve Mason from the Jackets or Jacob Markstrom from Florida. Rangers should think of getting some young backup goalies with potential and no more minor league guys...if the Rangers can get a younger backup that can take over for Hank in 4-6 years that wont be a bad thing..Hank will be 34 in four years. what if he has a decline like Biron?? Biron was a starter at one point too..remember...

Yeah. Hedberg would work pretty good I think.

Would definetly prefer Biron though.

Hank's replacement probably isn't even in the NHL yet, whoever that will be...

I like Biron as much as the next guy, but he was never the quality goalie that Hank is. I'm ok with Marty staying on as the backup for the next year or so. Maybe Dos Nueve can become a solid back up or maybe it's Talbot. But as of now, I think Marty is our best option. He understands his role and is a good team guy. He's played well for us.

Markstrom will start for Florida next year and probably has the highest value of any goalie aged 18-23. We're not getting him

Do you honestly think some future #1 goalie is going to sit on the bench next to Hank for 4-6 years before taking his spot?

And are you really comparing Biron to Hank? Come on. If we're playing that game why don't you compare Hank to Marty...that guy is 40 years old. If fully expect Hank to be our goalie for at LEAST another 6 years. Nobody we sign as a backup this year will be here then.

"@***************: #LAKings BREAKING NEWS: J.Bernier will NOT be back with team next year. Many teams interested and LA management has decided to move him."
Its believable, we all know how Quick's played and he's coming off a 700k deal so he's gonna need a huge raise, Berniers a RFA next year.

id love Bernier on the Rangers as a backup..hed be an upgrade over Biron.

what would it take to get him??

Neither of these goalies have low value at all. Mason's game has been like it was his rookie year since he switched to new pads, and Markstrom was excellent when Theodore and Clemmensen were hurt.

Biron is ok if for a little less.
2 years, 1.5 mil, w/buyouts in case we need cap.
More than that is overpay, and we need cap $$ for other guys, so I would take a chance w/Talbot 25ish games/yr.

LOL he's not getting traded here.

He will fetch a very nice return for the Kings. A LOT more then the Rangers would give up for a backup goalie.

yea TO should offer a ton. They will be desperate for a G.........something like what Lindback brought back but more since Bernier is a 1st rounder I believe.

I want Biron back but i don't understand why people use videos to try to convince people how good a player is. Post the vids where he gave up 4-5 goals, same thing with Bobby Ryan. People post vids about the good he does but what about when he is invisible? Can't post vids about that right?

did you even watch those games? they were 70% defensive failure 30% five hole... out of those 4-5 goals in both games, 3 were caused by major defensive lapses (most from breakaways/2 on 1)

do you expect a backup goalie to stop every break/2 on 1? not gonna happen. terrible defense that week. he had an excellent start.

Harding has resigned so he's off the market.

Plan B for backup would have to be Gustavson, Dan Ellis, Curtis Sanford, Johan Hedberg, or Al Montoya.

Marty's first choice is the Rangers

Quote:
“We have had several positive discussions with the Rangers that are hopefully headed in the right direction, because Marty’s first choice is to remain in New York,” Biron’s agent, Peter Fish, told The Post yesterday. “The Rangers have made it clear that they want to keep him, but there is still some work to be done.”
Quote:
“I think there would certainly be some attractive options for Marty if he were to become a free agent, but that is not his objective,” Fish said. “He enjoys everything about the Rangers and values his relationship with Henrik, and both sides are working so that he stays with the team.

“I can’t say for a certainty, though, that we’re going to get a deal done before July 1.”

He's not good enough to be a starter yet.

For all the hype surrounding the kid, he hasn't really done anything to support it.

for 2 years all we heard was that Bernie rwas going to make Quick expendable.

And for 2 years, he's posted pedestrian numbers while Quick has become one of the better goalies in the league.

If he does get traded, he's not going there to be the teams starter. He hasn't done anything to warrant a starting role.
