Also, I think if they really want to shake things up, package Brown and make someone worthy captain.
Yes, because why would we need scoring on the cheap? The LA Kings have plenty of that. Let's give that polyester C to someone else and fix all our woes!
we have enough of those types of guys, and what do we have to show for it?
The problem isn't the players. Lombardi blew his chance to move this team in a new direction. Instead he let go of all the players that working in Murray's system and brought in a coach with the same system.
DL has a lot of great pieces to all the wrong puzzles.

When you fire a coach and the players still play badly under the next coach, the problem is the players. That's something missing. Firing a coach should undoubtedly spark a hockey team that's worth its salt. Maybe this big shake-up will be the real wake-up call.
Im going to miss JJ. No matter what, This is all on Dean, no matter if the trade is good or not, he didn't draft offense and now its at the loss of a terrific defenseman, its all on his shoulder. He should still be fired, No hail mary. We lost JJ cause of his stupidity.
Kinda strands Kopitar, but maybe that line should be Line #1 and Kopi's Line #2.
That looks good but I also like the idea (after the rest of this season) of rolling 3 lines with 3 strong centers like Kopi Carter and Richards as our 3rd.
This is the NHL. Wing to center, center to wing, is one thing. Left defense to right defense, or the other way around, is another. Moving from defenseman to forward, or the other way around, isn't even a thing.
I'm sorry, I'm not buying this. You don't put up his numbers year after year and not "bring it", "compete", or whatever you want to call it. Not only that, but he has notoriously played through injury and done everything he can to stay in the lineup. He is known for having an above average defensive game. For god's sake, not every player on the Kings needs to be a checking grinder. That's what got us into this mess.
I don't really care that you aren't buying this. I don't want every player to be a grinder, and never said that.
For JJ and a first, we get a guy who will have been traded twice in 8 months, has 11 years left on his contract, will not be effective at winger which we need (my opinion only), is a floater (my opinion), has not been a playoff performer, and is a risk both attitude and injury-wise.
I want nothing more than to be wrong and will be the first one to admit it when it happens.

It's the players fault that there's no depth on the roster? It's a coincidence that all players are simultaneously having a bad year? Was it Simmonds fault that he wasn't getting PP time here?
Lets see how the team performs with a little bit more depth and a new system before we start blaming the players. It's kind of hard to score when your 2nd line is made up of players like King and Nolan.
Johnson + a pick for Carter is a win for the Kings.
Voynov can play. He is solid on both ends of the ice. We know this. The Kings are not about to take a catastrophic tumble defensively with VV in the regular lineup.
But Carter will be a big boost for this anemic offense. I just checked, he is scoring goals at a higher rate than Nash this season.
The Kings have to do this. The forwards are not cutting it offensively right now. They need the presence of a guy like Carter, who when combined with not only Richards but also Kopitar will help the Kings big-time.
Jeff Carter & Mike Richards spend just under 4.5 hours on the ice together last season for PHI and most of that was on the PP. Flyers outscored opponents 21-15.
That looks good but I also like the idea (after the rest of this season) of rolling 3 lines with 3 strong centers like Kopi Carter and Richards as our 3rd.
That's how I see it too. Richards is a perfect 3rd line center. Carter/Kopitar/Richards down the middle looks good. Still don't have any wingers though.
Carter on wing is kind of a waste. He was near 55% on the draw last season.
He's gotta go somewhere. I don't know if it's him, Kopitar, or Richards that should go to wing, but putting him on a third line with the team as it's currently constructed would be pointless. I'm just glad it seems like we're going to get him.
Kinda feel the same way. We'll just see what happens.
Carter's not a cure-all by any means. The system needs an overhaul; it prevents offense at both ends of the ice. However, perhaps just as big a problem this season has been that the dead-puck, anti-offense mindset the system instills has ground the players' will down to nothing.
Best case scenario at this point is that a shake-up of personnel and an infusion of pure skill gives at least a few of the guys their energy back and allows the team to once again overcome the restrictions the system places on them.
even if we have to include a 1st and a 2nd draft pick?
I think DD is not worth the $7M/yr and Nash's salary wouldn't be much more than that, so it is almost a wash in salaries,
JJ has been better most of this year than DD has been and Voynov could probably do okay replacing DD,
can't take credit for this trade idea cuz I saw it posed somewhere else from LA Times' post
but Columbus prob doesn't want DD, so how about DD and JJ and a pick for Nash and Carter?
btw, I was wondering why the heck Bernier didn't start yesterday on the back to back?
especially after Quick looked tired the day before?
Bad decision by Sutter, regardless of how Bernier might have done, aLthough he did fine when he got in to replace Quick...
DD is almost at a .5 ppg(.48) pace as a D-man on the lowest ****ing scoring team in the LEAGUE, trading him would be ****ing stupid. Its not DD that is the problem but the ****ing forwards.
