Basically they have $20 million wrapped up in 3 forwards. One is a moddy/injury prone player (Carter) and the other 2 forwards aren't exactly lighting it up(Kopitar & Richards). Add in Doughty's contract and you got a lot of $ invested in 4 players.
Now due to these 4 contracts they might have to trade "secondary" scoring (Brown) who is the captain of the team(particularily Carter's who has only 1 more goal, but 3 less assists than Brown).
They called the Carter trade a "deperation" move that could blow up in their faces due to the sending out of guys viewed as "good team guys" for guys that may have character issues(not neccesarily Richards alone, but Richards w/ Carter there)
Sounds like typical media hype to me though.
Anyways, this is the BJ's forum so I'll stop talking about LA. My final words on JJ: I don't how you guys will feel about him on the ice, but I can assure you, you'll love him off the ice.
And that's exactly the response he will get since no one in SoCal outside of the Kings' and Ducks' fanbase gives a crap about hockey. Ironically, he probably would have ended up being more recognized in Columbus bars.
(Not trying to bash LA or OC, just being honest. I was here in '07 when the Ducks won the Cup and no one noticed because it coincided with the arrest of Paris Hilton... )
I'm watching the PHO/EDM game(Vermette is looking good for them, so happy for that) and the PHO announcers started talking about the Kings and from what they were saying things aren't so well in La-la land.
Basically they said that when the Yotes played the Kings on Tues, there was a discord among the players and it started beginning of the year because of the trade for Richards. Tyson Nash(PHO announcer) went on to say that "the character of the team" was changed(basically incenuated that Wayne Simmonds was the locker room glue guy) and now with the trade talk about Dustin Brown, a lot of the guys aren't too happy.
Just curious how things will go if Richards/Carter go back to their partying ways? I REALLY want the #1 pick to be next year. The more I hear about that team, the more I think they're on their way down.
Tyson Nash is an idiot, PHX has one of the worst announcing duos in the league.
The Kings problems extend far beyond losing Simmonds.
Doughty and Richards have both supported Brown as captain.
Doughty has also said that they have a tight lockerroom.
I hope you meant we will love his play on the ice.. even with his +/- he is a huge upgrade over anyone we have had.
Kings fan here as well. I think you guys got the better end of the deal. LA has the worst player management in the league in my opinion. Johnson is a great character guy and if the coach lets him play his game, he will be a beast.
I strongly believe he hasn't peaked as a player yet and if he has the green light to carry the puck through the neutral zone and bring the edge back to his game, he will be a better player than Doughty once cap hit is figured in.
Only in LA can a consistant 30+ goal scorer not hit 20. And from what I understand, Carter may be a poisonous player when it's all said and done.
Good luck with Jack guys! Thanks to GameCenter I will be following his progress with you guys.
If we're building from the net out, which we should do imho, then you can not go wrong with Johnson coming to Columbus.
Cater, meh. Wasn't right for this team. ((yet), and with his tude about Cbus, probably never will be)
Yet the biggest issue on the CBJ prior to Carter was getting a center for Rick Nash?
We could go on but it's past even my bed time, Jack Johnson and a first round pick for Voracek and a first round pick is a good deal.. As for the drafted players that is moot, the best run organizations usually draft the best players, we will see. So far the Jackets did well trading away Voracek for Jack Johnson.
