Saw that Carter was a -3 in the Kings' loss to Boston yesterday. Feast or famine with that guy. At the Hawks/Jackets game the other night Johnson skated the puck end to end on multiple occasions - can't recall a Jacket d-man that's ever been able to do that.

I have a friend who works for the CBJ and asked him if JJ was the real deal. Without hesitation "yes, he wants to be here and is the most genuine guy I've ever met". Says Wiz is on board too. Lockerroom seems much better but will have a horrible time getting anything in via free agency this year due to the mess (Nash, Richards, HOwson, Priest, suck....

Seeing the boxscore today, I find your post ironic.

In his interview after the game, he said something to the effect of he tries to avoid eye contact with the coach during his shift because he's afraid if he does, the coach will think he's tired and needs to come off the ice. In essence, every interview with this kids has some form of "I love to play hockey" in it.

Glad we have him. Can't overstate how much of an improvement he is over Jeff Carter. WIN WIN WIN in every aspect of that trade.

Can't agree with the bold part enough.

I don't care what anyone says about what we gave up for him. He's a big step in the right direction for 1) our defense 2) a good team attitude that we've only gotten from old, veteran players in the past (Prospal, Clark, whatever).

Admittedly, I can't watch much of you guys since i dont have NHL network, but, judging by the wings game last night, JJ is going to be a major part of the solution, while Carter was a major part of the problem. A 1st never hurt anyone either. Personally, I'm rooting for you guys to get back in contention (I like the Jackets when they aren't playing the Preds), and I think JJ is going to be a major contributor in that direction. Well done in this trade

Personally, I hope you guys win the cup. I may hate you when you're playing us, but in the post-season I always root for you.

Carter out with an ankle injury, now DTD.

JMFJ Johnson has made quite an impression, but nothing so far impressed me as much as him giving the business to Holmstrom last night. Good god that kind of play gets my blood moving. More, please.

I think Jack might very well be the best athlete to ever wear the union blue.

JJ as BJ

3-7-10 +1

Carter as LAK

6-3-9 -1

Just found this interesting that JJ has had more of an offensive output than Carter

Just saw this on the Kings board. Thought it was quite funny actually, cause Carter doesn't show up for the playoffs either

Kypreos just tweeted that that Carter's expected to miss the rest of the regular season.

Howson really couldn't have done this deal. Could he have?

CBJ lose: A one dimensional, pouting brat who enjoys partying and was going to be an albatross for 10 years at $5.5 million/year.

Jackets get: A minute-eating, power play point man, offensively gifted defenseman who exudes nothing but positivism and has legitimate leadership qualities and costs over a million bucks per year less.

AND

A first round pick.

Nice trade, Mr. Patrick.

He's also a +3 in 17 games. For the last place Blue Jackets.

He was -12 in 61 games for the Kings this year.

Speaking of Carter partying. Already reported that Carter, Richards and their new friend Doughty have been seen around town tossing back some shots. I hope they miss the playoffs cause I got a feeling(mainly from listening to Sirius Hockey Night in Canada) that the Kings might implode next year.

Was reading (I think Hockey Buzz) that the Kings might be players in the Parise sweepstakes this summer. With what money? They'd have 3 players with salaries around $7 million(Parise, Kopitar, Doughty) 2 more around $5.5(Carter, Richards) and 6 others at $3 or up. That's leaving like league minimum for the other 9 players on roster. What if someone gets hurt(cough Carter cough)? They do have Quick & Bernier signed low for next year though, so they do have that going for them.

I must have looked at his stats before the last game then cause the one I saw had him as a +1 with 16 games as a BJ.

His start in this category is nice to see. He was a minus monster with the Kings. He was -90 over his five years there.

Although he was -12 this year overall in lala land, he was EVEN in the +/- in his last 27 games in LA.

I find +/- to be most useful within an individual's team. Comparing +/- between teams isn't really a sound measurement.

With that in mind, I calculated the +/- of 3 random Jackets over the same 17 games which JJ has played for the team.. The results were: Nash +2, Umgarbage -2, Letestu +5. Even with the similarities in this small sample, I would think that JJ has helped everyone's +/- on the team since he's been here. He's playing massive minutes and is a vast improvement over Clitsome

It's also worthy of note that Tyutin only played in five games after the trade before his season-ending injury. That certainly hasn't contributed positively to +/- and then there is Mase................

The early returns of JJ in all categories are outstanding.

EDIT: for giggles I did A. Johnson's +/- since JJ came over. He's played in 14 of the 17 games and is -9, Lebda is +3 and Moore is -5.

There might be some correlation with this and Philly trading the both of them Only idiot Howson would have been blind to something like this. For a 10 year contracted lush to boot. God, why hasn't this joker been fired yet?

Plenty of links. Have fun. Mr. Carter's off ice activities make for voluminous reading.
