Well, that was a waste of time. All they gave up was Johnson and a pick for Carter.

Yeah after reading this, I'm definitely confident that NYR/Leafs are front runners for Nash

Bob McKenzie
NYR have traded Wojtek Wolski to the Florida Panthers. (for 3rd round pick and prospect)

Right, but it sounds like they're out of the hunt too.

It feels like it's just New York and Columbus talking now. I hope CBJ gets a good deal if Nash goes to NY. I'd be annoyed if they got him for something cheap.

Sounds like Nash knocked LA out of the hunt. dW didn't raise their price on Carter enough

Bob McKenzie ‏ @TSNBobMcKenzie

VAN put Keith Ballard on LTIR, Creates $4.2M worth of cap space. May be setting up for deal. Maybe I Ott to look into that. #TradeCentre

From the details, it seems that Howson wants something just short of a franchise piece in return. IMO, he is going to find what Nash's value is anywhere outside of CBJ (effectively, elite complementary winger) which is not a franchise wing. And he is overpaid for that role as elite complementary wing should go for ~$6-7mil.

Wow. Vancouver is full of such cheaters. They're just doing this to get cap space.

Does anyone get the terrible feeling DW will free up a roster spot so he can claim Rolston.

In order for them to go through by Monday to open up contract spots and capspace for the deadline.

If you're trying to clear cap space or a roster spot by the trade deadline.

Cap space and roster spots. Contracts don't go off the books by waiving a player.

This is the last day that they can place a guy on waivers to open up a roster spot if a team is going to acquire players at the deadline where it requires roster space. It will have NHL offices doing double time to inform GMs if claims have been submitted.

They do if they're claimed, but yes roster spots. I said capspace too.

So waivers won't help our contract situation right? If we want a player a player has to go the other way?

Yes, or send someone for picks, futures, etc.

You hadn't mentioned cap space when I quoted you.

McDonagh, Erixon and a 1st is our equivalent of Vlasic, Doherty and a 1st. We'd probably have to add another pick or prospect on top of that since Erixon > Doherty. I think I'll pass. NYR can have Nash.

And he has a concussion that will heal perfectly timed for the PO's when there is no Cap.

Yah, I wouldn't do that.

I was still comparing it Clowe + Demers + Sexsmith + 1st

Which I think is better for CBJ, but their stupid, so who knows.

I don't know much about NYR but if McDonagh is as good as Vlasic why on earth would they trade him let alone package him when they are doing so well? I wouldn't even do Vlasic for Nash straight up.

I'm surprised LTIRs don't have to get approved this close to trade deadline

DW is just making sure Havlat will be fine soon at the wishes of CBJ.

DW: You want Havlat? He's injured now but will be back better than ever.

Howson: I don't know. Is he going to be healthy?

DW: Oh... yeah, for sure.

Howson: But are you really sure? Can you go verify this with your own eyes?

DW: I'll check this weekend.

So now we just wait.
