I was just wondering what veteran players you guys would like to see brought in to guide the young players now that the nuclear option now appears to be in full effect. We already made the move with the Prospal signing who else would you guys want to bring in?

I don't understand the bolded.

Trading a player not living up to expectations and one that never wanted to be here doesn't signify anything 'nuclear' to me.

Maybe we're currently experiencing the nukular effect, where we don't fully understand what's going on but somethin' sure is blowin' up right good.

I still don't think Nash is traded....we got exactly what we needed in JJ and now have a reputable defense...trade Meth and maybe pick up a decent dman in the offseason to add to that. We need Harding or Vokoun now. For the question, I say RJ Nash and Prospal.

Judging by Howson's interview.. We are only going to re-tool. So I Think NAsh is safe.

On defense...

Willie Mitchell (but health is a concern)
Brad Stuart (you might laugh but I like him. Rumour is he wants to move out West though)
Barret Jackman

In net...

Vokoun
Martin Biron(only as a backup and if we bring in a young starter)

Agree, if he is traded many have said the best time to do so is after the season ends, that said I doubt he's traded even then..

I'd guess the leadership core will be Nash, RJ and Prospal next season..

Yeah, RJ could be dealt, he's had a poor season but is still a strong room type guy imo.

If we're re-tooling don't we need a new tool to replace the general tooliness of Jeff Carter?

A guy I've always liked and may be getable is Ryan Malone.

Howson went hard for him a few years ago. Cap hit is high
but actual pay isn't bad at this point since it is front loaded.

Plenty of character plus solid ability. RJ-esque in a good way. May be a good replacement for RJ if he is moved.

Also didn't want to be here a few years ago. Just what I want, another guy who doesn't want to be here apparently.

You have a point. I had forgotten about that. Of course, if I were an NHL player with some talent, I'm not sure *I* would want to play for this franchise.

Some people mentioned Vokoun but isn't he currently getting shellacked up in Washington? Is he getting too old or ss the D playing that badly in front of him?

Huh? Vokoun has a .917 svp that's better than Mason's rookie season. His gaa is just above 2.5, but I'd hardly say he is hurting his rep this season.

Washington has had defense issues for years, just ask Umberger.. There are around 30 UFA goalies coming up July 1st as of today, Vokoun has a few years left in him and could help Mason's career but how good he will be behind our defense is hard to tell.

Must've just been the past few games. What I've seen recently hasn't looked very good, but it hasn't been enough to tell if it's the defense falling apart or what...

I'm just stats reading, if you've watched him you know more than me. I haven't watched Washington once this season.

I only started watching him recently this season. I must've just caught the last two games:

Washington has had horrible team defense. Its not all on Vokoun, but Vokoun has let in alot of stinkers too.

If Sanford can look like he belongs in the NHL in front of the CBJ d this year, I'm willing to roll the dice with Vokun next year.

Just no Mason. Ship, sailed.
